3.5 stars upgraded to 4. A matchmaking Irish dad. A sexy cowboy and a prim and proper Irish daughter. Cowboy and the Thief is light and sexy. There’s not much conflict, just the usual reluctance to commit. There’s lots of sex, more than you’d expect in a novella. Except for an objectionable word, this book is written well.
LL's formula stories of alpha posessive males and insta love-you-are-now-my-mate are a guilty pleasure of mine. The Breeds are addicting am I right! But this short was kinda rushed and all over the place. The "cowboy" owned a ranch out West but was more of a global importer/exporter (of what I still haven't a clue) and the "thief" travels all the way back from Ireland to take back a magical family heirloom that her matchmaking father sold to him. Okaaaaaaay. Then add in a medival flashback/shared dream sequence about the original warrior and lady wife/druid princess explaining the history of the magic and blessings of the "torque," which for me was the only story of any true interest to me, topped with the heroine getting turned on whenever she is outrageously manhandled...well Hell. LL just skip this plot and go right to the good parts, which she did manage to fit in about 60 pages...including butt plugs, nipple clamps, and silky gags! LOL
More like 2.5 stars. Very quick read (less than 100 pages). It all happened way too fast for me, and according to the epilogue I missed a lot of backstory. Still, not a bad read.
I read this book as part of a 2 in one book (Rugged Texas Cowboy) and since I can't find that to review I'm leaving it here.
Rugged Texas Cowboy by Lora Leigh is like hitting the jackpot, you get two book in one. Both books are well-written and populated with amazing characters. The first book, Cowboy And The Captive is Luc and Melina's story of mistaken identity. This is my favorite of the two books. There's plenty of drama, action, humor and sizzlin' sexy bits. The second book, Cowboy And The Thief is Jack and Angel's story. Their tale is loaded with drama, humor and yes, enough heat to start a bonfire. I enjoyed reading Rugged Texas Cowboy and look forward to reading more from Lora Leigh in the future. Both of the stories in this book are complete, no cliff-hangers.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.
This book is about cowboy named Jardin and a girl named Melina. Melina is a twin, the nice twin. Her sister seems to get away with anything and everything. A case of mistaken identity mixed with a bit of revenge/justice has Melina kidnapped by Jardin. Only Jardin is going to get more than he bargained for. This book had me so mad at times. The way Melina’s family treats her is so upsetting. She is used by her family to help get her sister out things she gets into. I felt for her so much. But maybe Jardin thinking she is her twin and kidnapping her could be the best thing to ever happen to her. Not everything is as it seems. This book was sad and yet great. I recommend this book and look forward to reading more books by Lora in the future. I was given this book in return for an honest review.
Read this title as part of a combined printing with Cowboy and the Captive, under the title Rugged Texas Cowboys.
Major objection: The threat of forced fellatio was used by the hero to coerce his heroine, which didn't fit the overall feel of the stories. (In a dark psychological or BDSM romance, it might work, but that's not what these are.)
Minor objection: The language, especially in steamy scenes, was somewhere between archaic and ridiculous. Words like "sodden" and "cervix" felt out of place, and seeing the hero's manhood described in the narrative as "a hard, hot, living stalk of pleasure" immediately took me out of the moment.
Even so, I finished the story. The writing was smooth and descriptive, the dialogue was natural, and I liked the characters (for the most part). The book isn't bad; it's just from another time and I guess I'm a more modern girl.
As in my first review of Cowboys and Captives, #1, this was one of two stories in a one book collection.
I enjoyed the aspects of this story very much, especially since it's a dream of mine to visit Ireland, I loved the lore within it centered around the torque and I was excited to see Jack, Luc's best friend from the first story reappear in this story and find the woman that would be his.
Because, when you have a cast of characters and there's one character who feels like they have been left out of finding their true love, it makes me a little sad. I wanted to see Jack find his true love and this story delivered.
I will say, I didn't enjoy this story as much as I did Cowboy and the Captive just because there was a little more mystery and intrigue BUT, I still loved it because it ended the way that I wanted it too.
A flyboy/playboy, matchmaking dad, and a hot-tempered woman...What more could you ask for. Jack has gone to Ireland and is staying with the Mannings and the chemistry between Jack and Angel are off the charts. They only have to be in the same room together for the sparks to start but just one kiss in the garden seals the deal but when papa Manning does a little twisting and ends up selling the torque meant for Angel to Jack that is what sets everything in motion. Angel follows Jack back to Texas and breaks into his home where Jack is waiting for her. Will he keep his little thief or not? Lots of heat and lots of lots of (yeah) more heat.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story about Jack, the partner who we met in Cowboy and the Captive. You do not need to have read book one first but it will help a bit. Loved the meddling father and the whole premise of this story, a real read to the end book. A special necklace brings these two together again when Angel tries to steal it back from Jack. You will have to read this to understand but trust me, it is a great read. Have owned these books for years and have previously reviewed but they are missing. I was very pleased to see these two are now in a book together RUGGED TEXAS COWBOY, so I had to grab it for easy rereading.
I was a little surprised by the instalove in this story. As a man of Jack's back ground i mean really I didn't see it coming. After reading both Jack and Luc's stories... I was expecting more with the story of the Torque and the Irish beauty. I mean hello the story of Luc and Melina was great. All in all it was good and I did enjoy the quick read.
A very porn-like setup: girl tries to rob a house, gets caught, and they come up with a mutually beneficial arrangement that prevents her from dealing with law enforcement. Bonus: there's also a romance plot added in, in that they decide to be together forever. (Is that a spoiler? No, not really.) The torque mythology is an odd but fun bit woven in.
This was a good story that was set at a good pace. Occasionally I felt that there was a little too much detail surrounding the 'myth' of the stolen object (without giving away any spoilers) - for me less is sometimes more and that is quite accurate for this book - that said I thoroughly enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars! I do love a Lora Leigh book!!
DNF Made it 2 chapters. The Male Dominant thing that went on ala little more mildly in the first book in this series (The Cowboy and the Captive) is just too much in this book. NOT my thing.
This is the first time I've read anything from Lora Leigh and granted it was a short story, I was very impressed. I wasn't sure what to expect, maybe something cheesy but this wasn't anything like that. As a matter of fact, half way through something happened that took me by surprise in a good way! It was totally unexpected and it worked with the story. Angel's dad sold her family torque to Jack, an American Cowboy. And now Angel is going to try to steal it back from him. Reading about these two characters was very entertaining and I have no doubt that if this was a full novel, I'd enjoy it just the same. Needless to say, I will be checking out more of Ms. Lora Leigh books :)
I think this is an awesome book. Jack and Angel meet in Ireland. Jack spends several weeks at the estate owned by Angel's father, during that time, he purchases a celtic tourque from Angel's father. One that belonged by birth-right to Angel. Angel travels to Texas to steal the torque back, but she gets caught, not just her but her heart too. Jack doesn't believe love exists, but finds himself changing his mind and heart when he falls for Angel.
