Qualitative Data: An Introduction to Coding and Analysis

Rate this book
Qualitative Data is meant for the novice researcher who needs guidance on what specifically to do when faced with a sea of information. It takes readers through the qualitative research process, beginning with an examination of the basic philosophy of qualitative research, and ending with planning and carrying out a qualitative research study. It provides an explicit, step-by-step procedure that will take the researcher from the raw text of interview data through data analysis and theory construction to the creation of a publishable work.
The volume provides actual examples based on the authors' own work, including two published pieces in the appendix, so that readers can follow examples for each step of the process, from the project's inception to its finished product. The volume also includes an appendix explaining how to implement these data analysis procedures using NVIVO, a qualitative data analysis program.

Good resource for the novice researcher! Helpful examples, great index. The material is a bit dated, but I found it super helpful.

Great read for those about to start on thematic coding for their qualitative research. I would however take the guidelines on number of the themes a researcher should target with a pinch of salt - felt very excessive given research that I have read.

As funny as it sounds, this is actually not a bad read. If you are looking for something to explain how to analyze lots of text based data (like focus group transcripts), this explains it pretty well. It's also an easier description of grounded theory than I've seen elsewhere. Not that you should read it just for fun or anything...

Seems like a good intro to coding qualitative data ... but I'll update this post after I actually try to code my data!

Great resource for qualitative design, data collection, analysis and writing. Although it focuses mainly on data interpretation and analysis, it gives strong cases for qualitative research process.
