Part cases studies, part analysis of fictional detectives, this book reviews Hal Lipset’s cases and the characterization of PIs in novels. Hal worked some historical cases in the San Francisco area in the 50’s-70’s using new technology like bugs and new ideas like working for lawyers.

Highly informative. this is the guy who was first hired as the chief investigator for the Watergate Senate sub-committee. He tells of a lot of his cases including working for Jim Jones and such. I don't necessarily agree with this fellow's thoughts on everything...highly liberal...but still very interesting! Worth the read just to find out the goings on behind gov't politics and crazy people alike.
