Leslie Alexis Marchand (1900-1999) was a Rutgers professor and a leading authority on Lord Byron. In 1957, he wrote Byron: A Biography and in 1982, published the 12-volume Byron's Letters and Journals.
All you ever wanted to know about his life. It's fascinating how some people are driven to write. With so much correspondence preserved, his life became an open book.
Over Fifty years old and still the most comprehensive biography of Lord Byron. I liked that Marchand reported both sides of the story especially when witness reports conflicted. A statement by the biographer in itself.
