Dive into eye-catching contemporary weaving With renowned artist Allyson Rousseau, contemporary weaving is simple, bold, and colourful. In this book, Allyson explores everything a beginning weaver needs and provides techniques advanced weavers can combine and expand on in their practices. Start by exploring fibres and tools, and then build your own frame loom. Dive into the many weaving techniques that characterize Allyson's contemporary pieces. Take your home decor to the next level with projects like wall hangings, pillows, and coasters, and make unique brooches and necklaces that stand out in any setting.
I really liked the clear instructions for making a frame loom and discussion of yarn sources. Basic explanation is given to the different weaving patterns and a lot of time spent on rya knots and trimming them (and several of the projects feature them so it makes sense, it just seems really specific and doesn’t leave much room to grow). And several of the projects are really specific to that style like the brooch and wall hanging. So a good beginner book I’ll probably check out again for the intro material but not a lot of projects I’m desperate to do.
The projects aren’t great but this does have good directions on basics. Also loved the section on weaving on paper. Has a section on using rya knots to make 3d shapes
