I didn't love the cake for breakfast bit at the end, but since my student is nowhere near even chubby, never mind morbidly obese, I didn't freak out about it. Mostly, I was just grateful for an easy read that he could get through. Also the illustrations were interesting and helpful. Great for beginning readers - 4-6 or so.

Bookaday #59. A level one reader that really shines! Clear picture clues, rhyming text, pets, and cake!

The simple, repetitive text is good for a child who is learning to read but the storyline is hard to follow. You definetly need to look carefully at the illustrations to understand what is going on....I read through it three times and still couldnt figure out how or why the boy ended up bundling up and going outside.....I suspected that his cat got out and he had to go and find him...but that is not right. The boy just randomly goes from stripping out of his dirty clothes to putting on a coat and scarf...he was literaly in his underwear on one page, and bundled up in winter duds on the next.
I'm sure there are better books than this one.

The kitten got high up in the tree, and it couldn't get down. Firemen got it down, then the cat went to the doctor. And then it felt much better.

cute book of a kid who eats cakes and pies and scrubs in the tub and plays with the kitty. How's that for a celebration of life?
