Poetry. "The poems in MOVING BLANKET seem to measure the nearly imperceptible moment in which consciousness becomes aware of itself as language. Elusive yet vivid, they ride on subtle mild currents that can turn unexpectedly into eddies of grace or passion. In the end, we have been on a journey without destination, other than the unfurling of an intimacy between a poet and his 'I sit on our bench again / Things are happening around me'"--Ann Lauterbach. "Of all the exciting linguistic effects of Kostas Anagnopoulos's poems--line-by-line shifts in perspective and perception, familiar phrases reconfigured--the most remarkable is ultimately the emerging voice--'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPOULOS'--of the lively and original poet himself"--Paul Violi.
Very different from the other collection I have by him (Chinese Notebook). That one was more like a modern art exhibit and this one was more cohesive and book-like, if that even makes sense? However, that wasn't a bad thing. I love Anagnopoulos' way with words and how it feels like there's this gap in the text you are invited to try to fill in and you fall through into empty space and... I don't know. Reading him is an experience. I am so grateful to Ugly Duckling Presse for publishing him, or I never would have come across his work. <3
Not only an effervescent, highly readable, image packed book, but one that also is designed well. The covers look like an old U-Haul moving blanket and have cool inside illustrations. Very appropriate and deserved blurbs on the back from Paul Violi and Bill Berkson. Thank you Ugly Duckling Presse!
