This book serves the purpose of a quick and easy reading to understand some gyaan on marketing; for an example I liked the way how he explained sections like how to develop effective marketing mix ("shoot with a rifle, not a shotgun")

If you are in marketing field, this book can be an effective brush up/refresher!

For those who have no idea about Marketing, this book can be a good start. Easy, light and practical. And for Marketers, this can be a good source for nice sources and new ideas.

The book covers a wide range of marketing principles and tactics, but there were several areas that were missing key concepts or could be expanded upon.

The book contained tips about Customer Orientation, Competitive Analysis, Market Segmentation and Targeting, Branding and Positioning, Promotion and Communication, Product Life Cycle and Innovation, Planning and Measurement and maybe something more too. Although these topics are not explicitly outlined in the book, they serve as the underlying themes for many of the 'secrets' discussed throughout.

The book lacks a truly holistic view of marketing that encompasses every aspect of the business and does not provide in-depth explanations in any specific area. But it is a sweet quick read to get to know some of the topics if you don’t know much about marketing or a quick refresher for somebody more experienced.

In this 126 Page book Peter Spalton shares 50 points; from the very rudimentary to cogent facts about pushing or pulling your products and services through different channels while understanding the customer psychology that make your customers buy.

This is an amazing book on marketing where the Author shares from his rich decades of experience in marketing, he shares points from the philosophy underlying marketing, the need to test and study what competitors are up to and how you can take on a reasonably good market share no matter your industry

The need for marketing plans and sticking with and executing marketing plans.


This is a book replete with ideas for both offline and online marketing and it is one of the very great read for me in 2020!

Don't go into the book expecting deep dives into the subject because the author doesn't do that. What you get here is a quick read that takes you through nearly all the fundamentals of marketing in a world of hyperconnected, informed and proactive consumers. The concepts are simply and precisely explained and supported by relevant examples of marketing hits and misses (but mostly hits) by well-known companies.

Read this as a refresher if you're a student about to write an exam after having skipped all your lectures (may get you passing grade, who knows). Marketing newbies may also find this useful but old hands should feel free to skip this one entirely.

Marketing is all-pervasive. It permeates through our society in so many ways, influencing our buying decisions, that we are not always aware it is happening to us. Spalton's book both unveils the strategies marketers use and shows how we can employ them ourselves. Initially, I thought this book came in a poor second to the other books in Collins Business Secrets because, however, as I looked closer I realised its importance and the cost of not actively being engaged in marketing in the areas of interest may have cost me. So, this book is liekly to be one I revisit many times again.

Marketinq, biznes bu sahələrə tamam yad olan insanlar üçündür bu kitab. Bir əlaltı ola bilər, başlıqlara bax addımlarını və ya planını yoxla kimisindən. Kitabın adı heç uyğun deyil, "ipucları" sözü "sirrləri" sözündən daha yaxşı yerində oturardı sanki.

ان تصف هذا الكتاب بأنه كتاب رائع فلسوف تبخسه حقه..!
و ان تصف الكاتب بإنه رجل عبقري فهو من وجهة نظري وصف مخل كثيرا و مجحف لحق هذا الرجل الخبير بحق..! الكتاب هو احد حلقات سلسلة business secrets و التي تحتوي على عدد من الكتب كل واحد منها يتناول جانب من الbusiness. الكتاب يتميز ببساطته الشديدة و اسلوبه السلس رغم احتوائه على المبادىء الأساسية التي لا غنى عنها لكل من يعمل في مجال التسويق marketing او حتى في مجال المبيعات sales..! المعلومات التي يتضمنها الكتاب لا يمكن اعتبارها اسرارا كما ذكرها الكاتب انما يمكن اعتبارها مبادىء و اساسيات او ABC OF MARKETING..! الكتاب يحتوي على سبعة فصول اساسية مل فصل يتناول جانب هام من جوانب ال marketing الفصل الأول او the 1st secret بعنوان فلسفة الmarketing و الذي يتضمن معلومات حول الفرق بين ال marketing و ال sales في المهام و الخصائص الفصل الثاني بعنوان identify markets و يتضمن كيفية تعريف ال market و كذلك من هو the ideal customer و ايضا انواع ال customers المشاركين في عملية الشراء و كذلك ضرورة معرفة نقاط القوة و الضعف في المنتج المراد تسويقه...الخ ثم يبدأ الكاتب في تناول عملية ال marketing من خلال ال marketing mix او ما يسمى ال 4ps و التي تتناول المنتج و الالسعر و المكان و ايضا ادوات التسويق المختلفة..! و في اخر فصلين في الكتاب يتناول الكاتب دور الانترنت في عملية التسويق.. و هو ما افرد له فصلين كاملين في الكتاب نظرا لأهمية التسويق عبر الانترنت و اهمية التسويق من خلال المدونات و المنتديات و ايضا عبر فيسبوك و تويتر و مميزات كل مصدر من مصادر التسويق الالكتروني و اهمية تواجد المنتج المراد تسويقه في مركز متقدم في محركات البحث عبر الانترنت. ثم يأتي اخر فصل في الكتاب و يتحدث فيه المؤلف عن ال marketing plan و ضرورة ان تكون سهلة التحقيق او achievable و و ضرورة وضع نوعين من ابخطط: Short term plan & long term plan و فائدة كل نوع منهما و مردوده الايجابي على ال business و اهمية ضرورة مراجعة خطط التسويق كل فترة حتى يتم تحقيق ما تم تحقيقه و ما لم يتم تحقيقه و ما لا يمكن تحقيقه طبقا لمتغيرات و تقلبات السوق و المنافسين...الخ ملاحظات على الكتاب: الكتاب بسيط و صغير الحجم و انيق التصميم بحيث يسهل حمله من مكان لأخر لغة الكتاب سهلة للغاية و بسيطة و يمكن اعتباره مرجعا لأساسيات ال marketing لكل من يعمل في هذا المجال.. الكتاب يتناول اساسيات ال marketing بشكل عام و ليس ال pharmaceutical marketing على وجه الخصوص و الكتاب يتناول اسرار ال marketing و طرق التسويق بشكل تام و بالتالي قد يتضمن الكتاب ما يصلح لمنطقة معينة في العالم و ما لا يصلح لمناطق اخرى و ايضا ما قد يصلح لتسويق منتجات معينة و ما لا يصلح لتسويق منتجات اخرى و بالتالي يتم انتقاء المناسب مما ورد في هذا الكتاب لعمل marketing plan مناسبة لل product المناسب..! الكتاب كما ذكرت من قبل هو احد حلقات سلسلة كتب بعنوان business secrets و بقدر ما افادني هذا الكتاب القيم غزير المعلومات بقدر ما عقدت العزم على اقتناء بقية كتب هذه السلسلة القيمة و التي تتحدث عن ال sales و presentation و time management و ايضا people management

النسخة العربية جميلة بترجمتها

أعجبني الكتاب كسهولة معلوماته

و تبسيط الفكرة الاساسية و أيضاً يجعلك تحب التسويق

لكنه ليس غني بالمعلومات كما أني وجدت فيه بعض الاطناب

I think the author should revisit the definition of the word "secrets", and better change the title to: "The simple very basic and shallow principles of marketing!"

Pros: Good book intended for a reader just getting started into the world of Marketing. Contains some good real business examples for getting more marketing ideas.
Cons: Couple of marketing ideas are not currently in use (obsolete), though it can be tweaked to form new ideas.
