God is issuing a call to bring integrity back to American Christianity. The foundational truths in this book will show the way. In this book Larry Stockstill challenges readers with principles for turning our nation around to integrity and commitment and precluding the judgment of God. There is a new breed of pastors and laypeople who are asking the tough questions: * Where has the glory of God gone in the American church? * When did the simple, pure gospel of the Savior become about "me," "my," and "mine"? * What happened to the transparency and integrity that marked the church for centuries? To each reader God is saying, "I want to start with you." Allow this book to shake you to the core and reorganize your family, your ministry, and your future.
As a missionary in Africa for two years and a senior pastor for twenty-eight years, Larry Stockstill’s ministry has been global and local. His ministry now involves winning men to Christ (Model Man), planting local churches (Surge) and strengthening character in leaders (Remnant). With six children all in ministry, he and his wife Melanie minister together worldwide strengthening the marriages and families of today’s Christian leaders.
I read this as a part of a discussion group and as a discussion book it was very good. Part of the reason it was good was probably because of the great people and the leader of the group. Reading more than a chapter a week and trying to read it all the way through on my own would have been hard at certain points in the book. It was relatively short and even the chapters that were more of reminders for me were great reminders.
Stockstill’s work is a highly practical and thoroughly Scriptural treatment of personal integrity in ministry. He draws from personal experience, biblical models and ample quotations to provide a tone that draws the reader into reflection.
Contained in the second section are 10 commandments for personal integrity. The list is excellent and each chapter ends with well thought out questions aimed at personal application. Overall, this is a very solid work that I will recommend to others.
The second time around was even better. The premise of the book said it all. We need integrity and accountability. Be different from the norm. The author shares concrete and practical ways for the church to become more effective for Christ by becoming more committed in ten areas. No more fault finding or finger pointing. God is saying, "I wanna start with YOU". There's a lot to be said for the power of one.
This book is excellent; one that will be read again and again. It calls one back to personal integrity and responsibility. It is basic, simple, yet powerful in its presentation. Not filed with a bunch of lofty words but simple truths that causes quiet reflection and contemplation. How we live our lives impacts people, let us live as into the Lord.
