Raising chickens is a growing trend hitting urban and suburban areas, as well as the country. The Complete Idiot's Guide(r) to Raising Chickens covers every aspect of raising chickens, whether one lives in the country, suburb, or city. People wanting their own supply of organic, additive-free, free-range eggs want to know how to keep their chickens healthy and egg producing.
?How to choose what to start with-chicks, pullets, or hens
?How best to feed and water
?Coverage of the most popular breeds
?Everything about eggs, including how to sell them
Did not have the info I wanted. for example, it had that breakdown of some people want a fancy breed of chickens for show and/or pets and some people want a meat chicken and some people want egg chickens but when they went over the breeds they didn't say which was which for almost any of them. I will probably just get the Storey chicken book or find something more what I am looking for.
This book is a great resource for someone who knows nothing about chickens. That said, we are ready to build a coop and give it a try! Many thanks to Belanger for providing us newbies with so much useful information.
i learned that chickens ovulate almost every day. But you can't expect a hen to produce 365 eggs a year. Around 180 is considered average. This book is filled with these types of mcnuggets.
