The perfect guide for both seasoned and novice seaglunkers, The Sea Glass Hunter's Handbook reveals how to locate the best beaches and predict optimum conditions; understand coastal access laws; determine the personal and professional value of sea glass' and identify the source of individual fragments. Sea glass connects civilization and nature, often in surprising ways. This guide investigates how tiny bits of glass and ceramic have engaged generations of avid collectors throughout the world.
Very well-written and engaging book. I live in Florida near one of the beaches mentioned - Vero Beach. I hope to find sea glass there one day.
Sea Glass is getting harder and harder to find. The book actually describes sea glass SEEDING - people throw glass and pottery into the ocean for future hunters to find.
Very quick read. The author has written other books about sea glass. I hope to find them soon to read and savor.
Fun little book with interesting info and beautiful sea glass photos, including “favorite finds” from a variety of people throughout the world. Not much new, I’m sure for long-time sea glass hunters but quick and interesting for people with a passing interest or who just love the sea, tides, etc. I think I expected more in terms of hunting/finding tips (so minus one star). But still worth the read.
This was sort of a weird book without a real audience or point. I got it from the library because I saw it at the Cape Ann Museum and don't know anything about sea glass and got excited because, Cape Ann. Anyway, this had some pretty pictures and an interesting glossary, but it wasn't substantial enough or directed enough to be actually good for anything.
I have never bought a book which I considered a waste of time and money until now. In my opinion the author writes as if speaking to an imbecile. Is a lexicon really needed for words like sand, shell and beach? And as for the time wasted reading it - luckily it only took 10 minutes to read from cover to cover!
A fun little book with pretty pictures about beachcombing for sea glass. My 2 weeks spent searching the shores of PEI for mermaid tear treasures were the most relaxing I've ever had. This book was a quick, informative read with an excellent vocabulary list.
I was excited to buy this book in hopes of gathering information on where to find it and the strategies involved. I learned neither. There is a list at the end of the book, but not very helpful. It was vague. The pictures of the ‘favorite finds’ was interesting though.
It took about 70 minutes to read from cover to cover, so not a lot of content here. There is a helpful list in the back of sea glass hot spots around the world. Would be a nice book to have as decoration in a beach house/rental, as it is nicely illustrated.
When my grandmother percussed this book for my 13th birthday I grudgingly agreed to read it. I'm glad I did. It held more tan just tips. It had touching stories and reasons to collect sea glass. I did like it.
Got this at my favorite beach and LOVED IT! The section of suggested beaches really sealed the deal for me. Highly recommend to any sea glass enthusiast.
