I knew a lot about sexual assaults before I started reading this book. In fact, I got the book only for my research papers on rape and ipv. However, I couldn't resist reading it from cover to cover, and I'm glad I did. I discovered (or maybe started paying attention to) the things I've never considered important, specifically vicarious and secondary traumatic stress. Together with the author of the book I found out the influence of disclosures of sexual assaults on the responders. I also had a chance to concentrate on many other aspects of rape that never bothered me much. Apart from that, I was able to connect my own feelings and fears with the material in the book, and get a clearer understanding of the reasons behind those experiences.
