A nice introduction with the text and many photos, mainly of buildings but also some furniture. At the start is a short biography, then photos and text discussing his life and works (some of the ones mentioned aren’t shown, partly at least because some were never made, or they were destroyed at some point). His best known work is the still-unfinished Sagrada Familia church, even now still a few years short from being completed.
The pictures are interesting, and each building gets many angles and details photographed. The story talks (also) interestingly about the many sides of Gaudi, his influences and what he chose to emphasise in his works (religion, Catalan identiy, nauture, modern things, history – Gothic, Romanesque, Moorish). I do feel the text ends a bit suddenly, but not with things still left unsaid. I feel the story adds much to understanding his architecture, and I’m certainly one who wants to see Sagrada Familia finished. If you have interest in Gaudi, this book gives you the visuals and explanations at just the right length. Loved it.
A great brief overview. The text doesn’t usually relate to the pictures that share the page, this can make it slightly confusing at times. Would love to see more direct visual references linked to the text. But still, a good general overview of the life of Gaudi
