Great. First day as the hospital receptionist and Darci Taylor faints. But a bump on the head hasn't clouded her vision—she can see E.R. doctor Jordan Drake's medicine could be addictive. Tall, dark and handsome, great hands, and…oh no, not going there. She just has to ignore Dr. Drake's bewitching bedside manner and sexy cowboy boots. Darci needs this job to make a fresh start for her son. To put their past behind them, not pick up more damaged goods.
But even in idyllic small-town Colorado, they can't seem to escape their troubles. And a romance with a single dad isn't helping. That means keeping her distance from Jordan and not falling for him. Yet she can't seem to stop….
Ugh, a kid who gets in trouble for waving a gun around a Denver suburb high school's cafeteria? Too soon. Yeah, it's been a few years since Columbine, but it's still too soon in my eyes. I had a hard time connecting with these characters. Their lives were filled with so many depressing events and I was surely looking for a feel good cowboy romance. The author did give a good feel for western life, with horseback riding lessons and doctors who wear cowboy boots. The setting was perfect. The whole book was just a little to dark for me even if it had the requisite happy ending. This is the first Harlequin's Super Romance that I've read, which is a line my cowboy series could fit into. I'll need to read a few more to see if I still think it would work there.
