This book was done very well! There are so many amazing aspects of it. First of all, I loved the integration of Spanish words. As a child, I really thought the idea of learning different words was cool. So that could be incorporated well with a lesson. Another part of this book that I loved was the window into a new culture. I love the idea of introducing my students to this. The last aspect I loved was the illustrations. They were very detailed and done well!

The author, Lynn Olawsky, gives details about Mexico using different colors (ex. the color yellow is associated with corn tortillas and blue for the oceans). There were no characters used in this book. This book appeals to a younger audience between the ages of five to ten. As a teacher, I will use this text to teach descriptive language (ex. "gold like the treasures of the Aztecs," "blue like the waters of the Gulf of Mexico"). The students will interact with the text through the illustrations because they were done beautifully and keeps the attention of the readers. I would like to use this book to also teach spanish terms that Olawsky uses throughout the book. The illustrations by Janice Lee Porter gives a beautiful introduction to the modern land.

A fun, educational read to go along with any lesson on Mexico. Also has some Spanish in it to help out with your kids language skills. A good educational read for all ages.
