This was an enlightening book! The author discusses how Chinese-American children live in New York City, in a city within a city. Most of the parents do not know English, so it is up to their kids to translate for them in the marketplace, at school, business, or wherever. Chinatown takes up about three square miles in Manhattan, and is home to the largest Chinese-American community in the United States. Chinatown apartments are small and crowded, but Chinese-Americans are hard workers, and kids are expected to do well in school. The two most popular career choices are computer science and pharmacy. This informative book goes on to talk about stereotypes, Chinese medicine, exercise and food.
