He was fourteen. The Comanche slaughtered his parents and burned his house to the ground. His only brother never returned from the Civil War. Now the kid from Hondo, Texas had nothing or no one. What would he do? Where would he go? How would he live? A chance good Samaritan act in the middle of the desert changed the course of his life and gave him a way to survive in the most dangerous way possible.
I met Dusty at a craft fair when I was 10. He said Kinch was a cool name so he would put me in his next book. Sure enough, Kinch is an outlaw in Longhorn part 2, gets shot by the Hondo Kid within 2 pages of being introduced trying to thieve cattle. Five stars. Hell yeah.
Another good western book by this author. Love the characters and story, one of the better western reads out there. I could not give it a five like I did the first one in the series but I still gave it a four, I did this because I felt the beginning of the Kid was a little too much. Insane that, again, a great read.
