Winter Sable is an outsider-a fae raised in the human world. When vampires find her, she flees to Arcane University for protection. But students are dying, drained of their magic, and Winter realizes she isn't safe at all. The prophesized evil draws ever closer as she bonds with the guy who makes her feel whole. His charm hides his secrets, all involving Winter.

This was amazing! A well written exciting read that has incredible world building and characters you can’t help but fall in love with. Winter is a fantastic character, a fae bought up by humans so when the vamps find her she flees to Arcane university for protection and to learn more about her magic, but all is not as it seems and there a a great mystery to be solved as the students are dying after being drained of their magic. It’s gripping, it’s thrilling, it’s suspenseful and it’s intense as the twists and turns and secrets keep you spinning and on the edge of your seat. An ancient evil is rising, romance is blooming and this captivating read has taken us on one hell of a ride and I loved it!
This is my first book by this duo of authors, it is technically a spin-off from the Eve of Eternals series but can be read as a standalone 🫠 there were a few cross overs but it's explained well enough you don't feel like you're missing key information 👌 I really enjoyed all the twists and turns it kept me guessing till the end. I would've like maybe a little more romance everything was kinda revealed at the end then everything wrapped up.
Winter Sable has spent the majority of her life growing up amongst humans despite being fae. It's apparently for her own protection but when she's attacked her mum packs them up and moves them back to Arcane to keep her safe. She begins at Arcane University amongst other magic wielders. Her family are somewhat of legends so whispers circulate when she begins. When a students body is found drained of magic the University goes on high alert. But when Winter finds out this has happened before she becomes suspicious and then when said dead girls appears to her telling her someone purposely drained her, Winter agrees to help Missy find out who is responsible. The Sables have long been able to talk with the dead but this is Winters first time, or so she assumes. Everything isn't as it seems and Winter needs to be careful who she trusts especially when vampires start trying to break through the school wards. Winter knows that everything is circling around her and her time is running out to figure everything out before she becomes the next victim. But has she put her trust in the wrong people? How can she be sure those who claim to be her friends really have her back? Those closest to her are keeping secrets and when she unravels everything nothing will be the same ever again.
I was super lucky to get an ARC of this book before its upcoming re-release! Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: half a 🌶
Overall, the Cursed Fae was a fun read. It was giving Harry Potter meets Twilight vibes in the best way. The cast of characters was a lot of fun and you really started to care about everyone by the end of the book.
The romances (yes plural) in this book are super cute and will have you giggling. However, this book is not super steamy, so if you are looking for spice, it might not be for you.
What would have given this book another star for me is if it had more atmosphere. I think there were more words used to describe food than any of the locations the characters were in. But I will say the food descriptions almost made me miss my days of eating in the dining halls on campus!
A fantastic and easy read. Winter - a fae having grown up around non-magical people, goes to college to learn to use her powers. A murder mystery, why are student dying around a well-warded campus? A ghost-bestie who makes you wish you had one of your own! Twists and turns while not being cliche!
My only sad note is it ended rather abruptly, in my opinion. I feel like things were going down, and then it did, and that was that.
I'm excited to read more of Sophie's other books to get more of a feel for the world. I appreciate every paragraph having actual meaning and purpose to the story as opposed to a lengthy description of nothing in particular solely for making a thick book.
I kept telling my book club as I was reading through this book that it felt like a 2010 teen drama on the CW - I feel like the plot would fit well for a series.
This book was a pretty mid-tier three star read for me - while I enjoyed it and had fun reading, the pacing threw me off at times (I had assumed a while had passed, but by the end of the book when the MC said that it had been a week, I had to set the book down while I processed my shock, though this might just be me misreading).
I feel like there is so much more that can happen, and if it was a TV show I think I would definitely watch the second season... but at this point I don't think I will be buying any more of the books in this series.
This book is AMAZING I’ve read the others in this series and loved that this was a stand alone book that slotted so perfectly in with the others. Be prepared though as it has more twists than a pretzel and an ending that I DIDNT see coming, which so rarely happens in books for me. Also so happy to see Ewan pop up in this book ❤️❤️
This was an ARC and overall, I really enjoyed it. The chapter titles threw me off a bit because they didn’t seem to fit well with the writing style. That being said, while I was able to guess some things - most of the twists and turns were complete surprises and I didn’t want to put the book down so I could find out what happened! At the end of the day, I’d definitely recommend this book!
This is a book you DO NOT want to put off reading!!! I loved every single word written! This world is such an action packed world, you’ll not be disappointed!!
If you like ghosts, Magic, werewolves, vampires, fae, murder mystery, love octagons involving both the living and the partially unalived, and being confused 39% of the time, this is the book for you!
OMG, what a wild ride! Winter’s story was full of irresistible romance, lots of laughs (especially from Missy) and layers of twists, surprises and reveals. The story easily drew me in and kept me glued to the pages, trying to decipher my feelings and guesses. I loved how Winter is your typical new student, despite the supernatural element, and loved watching her navigate new friendships and all the things thrown her way, while still remaining kind and understanding. My heart was torn by the romance but I loved all the swoony moments and playful bantering. And that ending! Be prepared (but it was so good)! I’m definitely hoping the authors can be swayed, because I’d love more of Winter’s story! If you love the dynamics and drama of The Vampire Diaries, this book is a must!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the premise, the setting, the characters, I think the only thing that held it back slightly from being a 5 star is it felt a little rushed in some places (particularly in terms of romance).
Saying this, I really loved the characters involved in the romantic relationships, I won’t go into much detail as I want to avoid spoilers, but, although rushed, the relationships resembled those you’d see in real life, which is something I particularly liked.
The writing style was one that really captivated me. You know a book is good when you get to the end and you’re gutted it’s over, I need more of this story. I can officially say I’m addicted.
Very good story. Unfortunately it seems to be the last book in the series and I haven't read any of the others. Guess I'll have to go back and read from the beginning.
In this book a young woman (college age) has an encounter with a vampire which she survives in the prologue. Her mother takes her and moves to her home town where our h ends up at a school for the paranormal, primarily fae. On her first day there a body is found belonging to another student. The girl was "depleted" - drained of all of her magical power which killed her. The girl's ghost appears to the h asking her to find her killer because she's sure she was murdered.
I love that we finally get Winter’s book! It’s been fun experiencing Winter’s character development since she started school. The secondary characters are also amazing (as always). I swooned for Archer the moment we met him!
The ending is a sweet HEA for Winter, but there is much more to her story in the Eve of Eternals books. I need to go back to Zara’s story to read about the first time all the eternals met again. One of my favorites! I can’t wait to read more about these two strong females!
Okay, so I really loved this book! “The Cursed Fae” featured a hidden supernatural university and all the drama that went on within it. Winter, the heroine, was bold and confident, and I loved that she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself. I loved the idea of a supernatural university, and while this book was definitely intense at times, overall, it held my attention from beginning to end, and I thought it was really well written. I highly recommend!!!
I could not put this book down. Winter's Journey at is filled with action, suspense, mystery, romance and magic. This is not your typical Academy story and Arcane University is not your typical school. Winter is growing in her magical abilities and making friends but the Vampires know how to ruin a good time. The world for this series is fantastic and the overall story captivating. Once again Sophie Davis does not disappoint.
Winter Sable shows up at Arcane University to learn about her magic. Besides adjusting to a new school, Winter must also keep safe from a vampire thwarting the protective wards to get her, and work to solve the mystery of other students getting drained of their magic. Is one of her new friends involved? You'll want to read to find out.
This is Winter's story and what a doozy it is. A new college. The newbie. Friends. Two gorgeous men. A disappearing mother. A very powerful great-grandmother. Pupils dying. Magic drained. Whom can she trust? Love eternal.
