The Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate (Latin: Congregatio Fratrum Franciscanorum Immaculatae; F.F.I.) is a Roman Catholic Institute of Religious Life with Pontifical Right established by Pope John Paul II on 1 January 1998. The F.F.I. was founded by two Franciscan Conventual priests on 2 August 1970 and is a reformed Franciscan Conventual religious institute living the Regula Bullata of St. Francis of Assisi according to the Traccia Mariana.
The F.F.I. is the male branch of the Franciscan Family of the Immaculate. The female branch is the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate; the third branch of the family is the Franciscan Tertiaries of the Immaculate, which is composed mainly of lay people. An offshoot of the Tertiaries is the Third Order Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate.
I was looking for a book to read for my reconsecration and I found this joint from 1973! And it’s so dated in the best of ways. There’s a lot of conquistador apologetics, which I really was not expecting. Like was Cortez actually super based? The authors were saying that nothing really bad happened on the Spanish side during colonization in the 1500s, or like if it did, it was super overblown and I’m like ARE U REeAaLLY SURE ABOUT THAT? Or talking about the Mohammedans at the battle of lepanto. I love talking about the Mohammedans as much as the next guy, but I feel like that term Mohammedans gives the same energy as “papists” for the fundamentalists. Uck, get that out ya mouth boy.
But Our Lady is awesome. She’s so cool, I’ve decided to get a tattoo of her on the 12th. There was some really grainy pictures n shit about her eyes reflecting Juan Diego and his buddies and I thought that was pretty far out, to use the lingo of the day.
But no cap, this image is actually the greatest piece of art on the planet, because it was lit’rally painted by God. That’s on God for real. I think all artists should have a devotion to this image because of this. And thats why I’m boutta get that joint on my arm.
If ya cant tell I’m supa tired after my silent retreat I had in an unheated cabin in the woods with this lithuanian hermit priest.
This is a collection of essays by religious scholars concerning the famous apparition. Many of the articles could use bibliographies but I suspect this is the foremost source on the subject. Reverent and meticulous writing here. Highly recommend.
Hard to push through reading the end. But it wasn't a month's story like I expected. I learned so much more than what is usually written about our Lady of Guadalupe. Not just on the aprition itself.
