Quick easy read . Good book about becoming a believer and God’s provision in life! Includes Charles Haddon Spurgeon’s sermons . Still so meaningful all these years later❣️

Great Christian Historical Fiction. Very easy to read, so this one is not a high level "intellectual" novel. It's meant to be an easy read in order to be able to reach a broader audience. Ray does a fine job with his first novel and gets his ever-consistent message of salvation across in a new and fresh way. The story may be somewhat predictable, but the story lines employed are not as predictable as they could have been. I enjoyed how some of the great preacher, Charles Spurgeon's, sermons were used in the story. Since the book was historical and set in the 1800's, the use of the King James Bible Version and old English of Spurgeon's sermons was perfect. Scripture and sermons used are usually explained in common language within the storyline which is both well done and needed. The book also includes the full transcripts of two of Spurgeon's sermons in the Appendix. Not quite a book that "couldn't be put down", but it was close!

Even though I read this book several years ago, it has made a big impression on me. (In fact it was one of the books that inspired me to write my own Christian fiction novels.) Ray Comfort wrote an intriguing story set in American history with relatable characters who heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and responded in a variety of realistic ways while dealing with life issues. Thanks for the good read!

Good book. Thought-provoking.

I picked this up a few years ago, but due to the nature of the redemption story put it down for a later time. I picked it back up since I was needing a lighter read, and read it within twenty four hours. It was such a sweet story about the power of love and the chance for redemption. It was one of those books where the point of the story is the message it conveys, so there are points where some might say it gets preachy, but the message is a powerful one. Since it is the focus, though, the story wasn't as well crafted as it could have been. For example, I think that there should have been a bigger moment between Catrina and Jake after she confesses, and I think it would have been nice if Jake were a little more worried/guilty about his past. But overall a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Jake's father is murdered while he is a young boy. He learns that his father was killed out of greed after he discovered gold on his own land. From early in his life Jake struggles to cope with the death of his father and the other evils in this world. At the same time his mother's faith in God creates a inner struggle for Jake who doesn't understand while God lets bad things happen to good people. This is a interesting novel that weaves Christian faith and Biblical principles into a compelling story. It concludes affter the final chapter with an 1857 sermon by Charles H. Spurgeon that effectively proclaims the Gospel and seeks to save the lost.

Good story with a presentation of the gospel. This is a story of murder, greed, blackmail, prostitution. But it is also a story of God's forgiveness. It is set in 1800's Wild West. Jake sees his father murdered and as a result, turns his back on God. He falls in love with Catrina, a former prostitute. His mother's and sister's prayers do not fall on deaf ears and God answers their prayers as Jake reads some papers left by his father. These include some newspaper clippings of sermons by Charles Spurgeon. The book ends with the reading of two of these sermons.
