Sarah Garland's classic series of pre-school books look at every aspect of busy, noisy, muddly family life. In Going Swimming we join the family as they negotiate the changing rooms, persuade the baby to join them in the pool and have lots of fun splashing about together. And guess who doesn't want to get out again when it's going home time?
Sarah Garland has written and illustrated over forty picture books and adventure stories for young children. She is best known for her warm and witty portrayals of family relationships, and for her outstanding work for preschool picture books.
She lives in the beautiful village of Chedworth in the Cotswolds with her husband, artist David Garland.
A favourite read from both my childrens early years. We love the way this series follows ordinary day to day life of young children, showing the fun and the chaos!
Really like Sarah Garland's books. So simple and relatable for toddlers. Also, for some reason, Ll loves this family's dog, like, a whole lot. He's very happy at the end of this book when the dog reappears.
A favourite in our house. The babes always likes pretending to be the baby and shouting 'more swim' when we get to the right bit. I like the buying tickets page, there always is someone in a too short skirt hanging about there isn't there. Obviously, nowerdays you wouldn't leave the dog in the car, but we let that one slide.
Great book. We read it a year or so ago and my my daughter loved it. We had it on loan for months. She found it again and, at 2.5 still loves it. Read it over and over today and knows nearly all the words to 'read' herself.
So glad this has been republished (2013), 23 years after original issue! I think this and Going to Playschool are quintessential board books. Perfect amount of text, realistic and warm illustrations of life child and parent will happily recognise. Every play group should have copies!
