As always, I really enjoy Calvin's warm exposition of a passage and this section (drawn from his larger body of sermons on Deuteronomy) is no exception.
Calvin shows that the ten commandments all speak to the heart and are much more than just restricting outward actions. Each commandment has a positive as well as a negative responsibility attached to it, and each is highly applicable today.
Calvin is a major figure in Protestant Christianity. This is my first exposure to his writings except for brief sections of Institutes. In this selected book it covers 16 sermons on the 10 commandments from Deuteronomy 5-6:4. I found his teaching mixed. His sermon on "Honor your father and mother" is an exegetical over reach by todays standards. Still a worthwhile segment to study and read overall.
