Orange Blossom is delivering First Day of Spring bouquets all over Berry Bitty City. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends offer to help, but Orange insists on doing it all by herself. However, after delivering a few packages to the wrong houses and mixing up who is getting what, Orange realizes that she needs her friends' help after all.
I like the book because it talks some basic things about spring such as names of varieties of fruits and colored flowers. It’s good for children to learn fruit’s name and the colors match the fruits. It also talks about friendship and emphasizes that communication is extremely important between people. Children can learn that it’s not ashamed to ask for help when you get into trouble or when you face something that you cannot handle it. There are many conversations and time sequence words in the book, which can be modeled for communicating and better made use of in daily life. Some Spanish is also in the book, it’s great to recognize different language and to understanding its culture. The children may talk about what their favorite fruit or color are and think of everything they have done in the spring and communicate/ share with their peers while I am reading. Meanwhile, I will emphasize the dialogs that the book used when I read aloud.
A simple story. Message: Ask for help! The best part is where Strawberry Shortcake and her friends are riding around on their scooters and they are all wearing helmets. The mom part of me went "woohoo"!
