In 1991 HarperPaperbacks published Linda Cooney’s novel “Freshman Dreams.” The novel is volume 5 in the Harper Collins Freshman Dorm book series. The novel begins with a storyline about Springfield University’s four best friends becoming involved in writing a school newspaper article featuring an investigation they conducted about a fraternity harassment of freshman Howard Benmann who was bound and locked in the trunk of his car. The novel next describes Winnie Gottlieb’s special relationship with a skilled guitarist and singer she met in Paris during a European tour. This unique experience motivates Winnie to renew her relationship with her former boyfriend Josh Gaffey; and in a very unusual chain of events causes Winnie to have a driving accident that destroys a BMW owned by her friend Lauren. Winnie survives the accident and the car is restored. The novel also describes how Winnie’s friend KC Angelletti becomes a 20% profiteer in a calendar publishing business, and the novel also describes the amazing techniques that four main character female students use to study and take their midterm exams. Finally, Linda Cooney’s novel “Freshman’s Dream” discusses freshman Faith Crowley’s skills in staging an orchestral production of Alice in Wonderland.” The book’s storylines are very interesting. (P)
