Why I should condemn this book for having an opinion not in harmony with mine, is totally immature and hypocritical on my part. But hey, I never said I wasn't a complete asshole.
So look, as many reviews as there are in this hefty tome that I DID agree with, the sonofabitch also HATED 'Forrest Gump', and only gave 'Jaws' two stars - instead of one, because its reputation of being one of the greatest movies ever made probably disabled him from doing so. When you join a site like 'Goodreads' and 'Rotten Tomatoes', you have to accept that not everybody likes the same things as you. But reading this book - obviously I didn't quite read it cover to cover - was like going on the 'To Kill A Mockingbird' page on Goodreads, and filtering only the one-star reviews.
I just couldn't respect this guy's opinion because, fundamentally, it had already clashed too deeply with mine.
As a more grounded criticism, however, I will say that David Gritten's selection for the "movies that matter" has left me quite baffled. For one - and I hate to reference this movie so many times, but it's just one of those films I'll never stop loving - the dick does not even INCLUDE 'Jurassic Park'. Oh, don't worry, he included 'Scary Movie 2' and 'Alvin & The Chipmunks'. Apparently, the American remake of 'Godzilla' was worthy of being noted. But not the most technologically groundbreaking movie of all time. No, of course not. I mean, who remembers 'Jurassic Park'? Some guy gets eaten off the toilet, and there was that fat guy from Seinfeld as well. FUCK THIS MAN!!!! Does he hate that film so profoundly that he can't even give it ONE star? If you were to take one movie into an alien planet, in order to showcase mankind's talent for film-making, you would rather take 'Home Alone 3' if the offer was put on the table? Go to hell, David Gritten. Thank God I only spent £4 on this shit.
