Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.

As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.

Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.

As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.

Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.

Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.

Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.

Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God

Earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear radiation leaks...

Floods, tornadoes, wrecks, deaths, stillborn babies...

Financial turmoil, wars, suicide bombers...

Is our world chaotic?

Can we live with confidence...here...now?

Dr. David Jeremiah very clearly lays out a tried and true plan for us of how we truly can in his book Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World. Dr. Jeremiah blankets us with rich biblical direction, encouragement, and inspiration as he walks us through ten specific ways to remain confident among the apparent chaos.

As the chapters are titled, he guides us in how to stay: calm, compassionate, constructive, challenged, connected, centered, confident, consistent, committed, and convinced as we maneuver through the war zone that is our current world.

As Dr. Jeremiah states, "In chaotic times, the battle rages wildly. More than ever we need to strap on that armor (the armor of light - walking in fellowship with God); more than ever we need to know our allies from our enemies. A soldier may stand on the wall, but he never sits on the fence." (italics mine added for clarification based on book content)

Are you on the fence---or on the wall?

As Dr. Jeremiah also states, "Now, in the fourth chapter (of 2nd Timothy), Paul tells Timothy that it's not enough to just acknowledge what is right, he must announce what is right. He must preach this truth!"

So, again I ask, are you on the fence---or on the wall?

To Not Decide...Is to Decide!

Heavily directed at Christians though inviting, intriguing, and encouraging for anyone to read, Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World gives biblical and spiritual ammo to the soul. Dr. Jeremiah helps to renew our minds, our hearts, and our resolve as we face these days of ever-increasing confusion, doubt, and difficulty.

I leave you with one last nugget from the book:

"If you remember the Bible's warnings---that the Bible and the faith will come under increasing attacks as we get closer to the return of Jesus Christ---you will not cower in fear when skeptics raise their voices. Whether they are comedians who try to soften your defenses with humor, scholars who try to overwhelm your beliefs with intellectual arguments, or religious leaders who try to convince you that the Bible is just a book, you will be ready. You will remember that 'the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever' (Isaiah 40:8).

Are you living with confidence or cowardice?

Are you on the fence or on the wall?

The time to decide to stand is now.

The day of salvation
and of spreading the good news of saving grace is TODAY!

I read the second edition of Dr. David Jeremiah, I believe the difference in the first edition book to this is that his Introduction actually brings up the pandemic and the political unrest that is happening today. I absolutely loved this book. I really like the writing style, he filled it with so much good history, stories, illustrations, analogies. My book is heavily marked up of things I want to share for any future Biblical discussions. He gives solid 10 Biblical traits to of how to handle the chaos around us and not get swept into it. He really pushes you to think and reevaluate your Christian life and walk with God.

Living with Confidence is living in Christ and what he has done. David Jeremiah is very conversational in his short book always bringing you back to Christ. He shares about how we can be compassionate during these difficult times. I liked on page 32 how he writes...Compassion is hard because it requires the inner disposition to go with others to the place where they are weak, vulnerable, lonely, and broken. We like to run from suffering. Jesus embraced suffering because it brought glory to the Father. He gives 5 proofs of compassion in a Christian's life. Why is being compassionate so vital in a christian's life because the effect of compassion is that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness. I liked how it is very intentional that to stand in faith during these times. It is not passive. It involves knowing the Father, becoming like Christ, and praying. This is not a one time experience but a lifetime experience. We do have a resposibility for our growth that is how we grow in faith. He continues by asking the question if our walk with God is all about emotions and feelings. Or is it driven by faith and the word. I will end with this and it goes with my daily bible readings, God desires a relationship with us and to know that he is the great I am. I am reading the exodus and a repeated phase is that they will know that I am Lord. Reading this short book was a great reminder.

I bought this book years ago but did not finish until 2023. Pastor David Jeremiah had written this in 2009 right after the Great Recession. How would anyone but God know that we would have another economic crisis in 2022-2023? This book could have been written yesterday as the author addresses what Christians should do.

Pastor David has a theme of "Stay _________". Each principle calls on Christians to keep growing in our faith. We do so by looking up to Jesus and for his imminent return. It's not escapism. It's not a polly-anna view of the world either. We have a future hope and a present hope.

I love the call to stay challenged - to keep learning. In the Strengthsfinder - "Learner" is my fifth attribute so I am happy to keep learning. Sometimes I learn for my own amusement, but I also learn to improve my trade as well. I know some people hate school and that's fine; these people might be more comfortable learning with their hands - gardening, landscaping, forging, etc.

Above all, we stay consistent in our practice of our faith in Jesus Christ.

Attitudes for the Final Days

David Jeremiah gives us a list of ten characters traits that should be evident in the life of a believer living in these final days. Now that I think about it, these traits would be good for anyone living in any time. These alliterative list is calm, compassionate, constructive, challenged, connected, centered, confident, consistent, committed, and convinced. Aside the from the alliteration, these traits are reminiscent of the Paul's fruit of the Spirit in Gal. 5:22-23 or Peter's growth plan from faith to love in 2 Pet. 1: 5-7.

Another great one from David Jeremiah! Interesting, inspiring, exciting and motivating... this Biblically-based book convinced me that time is short and we only have so much time to act, to help people come to Christ before He returns for us!

Solid biblical content with many good stories and illustrations. Written in the uncertainty of the 2009 financial crisis, there is much application for today. We always have hope in Christ but we must walk with faith and commitment, standing strong on His Word.

And 12 years later, it’s even more chaotic. Add pandemic and lack of truth in culture as two main roads to chaos. Ugh. What a positive book to help us through chaotic days. Thank you!

Dr. David Jeremiah knows how to teach with compassion, empathy, humor and history. This is one book that everyone should be reading right now in this time of uncertainty and doubt as well as the fear-mongering going on. Don't be afraid; be with God. A nice companion book to the radio/internet series of the same name which I also highly recommend via his app Turning Point.

I have been trying to expand my horizons when it comes to religion. Reading books and learning about different religions from friends (no fights because I just listen). Moreover I have been trying to learn more about what is going on with the world. I blocked it out, denial, because the economy did not hit me yet. When it did, I now have an open ear. Basically I have been naive about both topics.

I have to say that I was really looking forward to reading this book, especially reading the back cover. However, I am really disappointed. I expected the political stories to be about our present. Most of them were about the past. I do not care about a guy who had something bad happen to him in the 1800s and God got him through it. Also, not to be biased, but the book focused mostly on religion and passages in the New Testament. I would have liked to read more about politics in the present era, and basically just more politics.

The writing of this book kept my head spinning. Dr. Jeremiah would make his point, explaining in detail and I understood. However, it felt as though he was trying to make the book longer because he kept repeating himself but with different words. I read the first four chapters before I had to put the book down and carry on with my life and it was quite difficult to pick it up again. I found this book to be boring and did not answer any of my questions that I thought would be touched upon based on the back cover. In my opinion, reading this book was a waste of my time. How will I live with confidence in this chaotic world? Keep my chin up, dive into the chaos and have faith.

If you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself!

Until next time, take life one page at a time!

Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World by Dr. David Jeremiah

Living with Confidence is a practical spiritual guide to thriving in turbulent times. Written with an eye on the current world conditions of economic disparity, job loss, and tragedy affecting the world today, Dr. Jeremiah guides you through Biblically sound principles of staying focused on things eternal while keeping God’s peace in your day to day life.

What a fantastic resource. There was so much written in the first chapter about job loss and economic struggle I thought the entire book was going to be very depressing and dated. However, as I continued reading, the themes of “Stay Calm, Stay Compassionate, Stay Constructive”, etc. are timeless themes repeated over and over in the Bible. Dr. Jeremiah presents these ideas as good general guidelines for remembering things eternal and striving to live beyond this world. What’s more, Dr. Jeremiah shows practical ways to achieve each of these. He gives specific steps to take and consistently keeps his focus on Jesus and scripture. As I was reading, his words would come back to me throughout the day as a gentle reminder and help me to be more Christ-like in my evaluation and treatment of difficult people and situations.

Dr. David Jeremiah’s writing style is concise, clear and interesting. I have and will continue to recommend this book to anyone who desires to grow in their walk with Jesus, whether or not in the midst of personal trouble. The advice is timely for anyone.

I am giving Confidence in a Chaotic World 5 out of 5 stars – full of excellent information, not too short and not too long, and an easy reading style.

Dr. David Jeremiah writes as he speaks, and that is very well.
Simple.
Down to earth.
Biblical.
Caring.
Interesting.
These are all descriptive of Dr. Jeremiah's writing in this book.
Dr. Jeremiah recognizes that we are in very troublesome times. He acknowledges our fears and concerns. He then takes the Bible and recommends that we embrace the truths that the Bible gives us about how to live in these times.
Among the things that Dr. Jeremiah teaches us are to: stay calm, stay compassionate, stay constructive, stay connected, stay centered, and much, much more.
Dr. Jeremiah teaches us of our need to seek our answers in Gods' Word, stay active in a local church, remain compassionate and caring though we are tempted to be selfish, and to be confident that God will bring us through our troubles.
Though Dr. Jeremiah tells us so much more than this, these things are a sample of his message to us. He also tells us why these things are necessary. We should stay in God's Word, because Scripture is our guidebook, and has the answers that we truly need. We should be active in our local church, because we draw strength one from another when we do so. This book is filled with relevant teaching.
In a day when anxiety, depression, loneliness and fear are surrounding us and filling us, Dr. Jeremiah's message in this book is a necessary and helpful message. This book should be a great encouragement to all who read it. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Jeremiah reminds us that even during today’s uncertain, chaotic times, God has promised to always be here for us. We need to find comfort in trusting Him and His plan for us. He explains that we need to remain calm, compassionate, constructive, challenged, connected, centered, confident, consistent, committed, and convinced in our daily lives.

For each characteristic that he tells us to practice, he explains how and why through stories and lots of Scriptural quotations. Dr. Jeremiah uses the Word of God to teach us how to have hope and confidence.

In his book, he discusses some of today’s events and shows how they fit in with the Bible’s end-time prophesies. I really enjoyed reading the parallels between what’s happening in our world today and what God tells us will happen during the apocalypse.
I found this book to be very motivational and reassuring. Too often we get caught up in today’s struggles and forget that God is in charge of our journey. For believers, this book should serve as a wake up call to remember what God has told us about the end times.

At the end of the book, Dr. Jeremiah asks us two questions. I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t read the book yet but I will tell you that if you read this book with an open heart and an open mind, this book has the potential to be life changing.

I first read Dr Jeremiah's books because my Bible Study group at church was covering them. One of the ladies used to attend his church in California, had heard him speak many times, and recommended his books. We did the study for What in the World Is Going On? which I enjoyed, therefore I jumped at the chance to read and review the follow-up.

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting the suggestions Dr Jeremiah gives as to how we should live with confidence in this time of social and economic upheaval. That's not to say I was disappointed. In fact, I was constantly highlighting relevant passages because of their usefulness. It seemed that every time I opened up the book to read it, I received a wake-up call on how to live my life. And that's why I gave this book top marks. A great book is one that makes you think, and that's what this book does.

I already know that my Bible Study is going to cover Living With Confidence once we start back in September. I’m certain I'll be re-reading this book, and maybe even highlighting more of it!

Disclaimer: I received my complimentary copy of this book through Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze book review program. The above comments and opinions are my own.

Dr. Jeremiah has created a stunning masterpiece. Like many of his other books, this one is based off of a sermon series, which I wish I had been around to hear. Each chapter felt like sitting in church, and I found myself silently reading each word in his familiar voice.

"Living With Confidence..." offers an accurate portrayal of our world and current times--well, current in 2009, but still enlightening for today. Dr. Jeremiah is concise and unapologetic about Biblical truths that our secular culture may find hard to swallow. He uses interesting anecdotes and biographical accounts to enhance timely truths. His multitude of quotes leaves me believing that he is a well-read man; referencing Kurt Vonnegut scores him ten punk rock points.

"Living With Confidence..." left me with dozens of highlighted passages, by far the most quotable book I have yet to read. In some places, conviction hit me hard. In others, encouragement buoyed my faith. This book has led me to make significant changes, and it's impact will not soon be forgotten. It's one of those books that is carried with you long after the last page is turned.

The sixth book I was provided to review through the Book Sneeze program LIVING WITH CONFIDENCE IN A CHAOTIC WORLD by Dr. David Jeremiah. This book was not at all what I was expecting and, therefore, was very hard to get into and process. I am sure this is a great book for people interested in reading about "the end times" but I am not one of those people...

The chapters are each titled as a command or a direction to the reader: Stay Calm, Stay Confident, Stay Connected, etc. Those are all great things to do and he has biblical evidence to support his teaching. However, the book is very wordy. I think his point could easily have come across in less than half the two-hundred-plus pages.

Sorry, Dr. David Jeremiah - it just wasn't what I expected or what I was looking for as reading material...

Dr. David Jeremiah reminds Christians of the importance of being grounding in a thorough knowledge and application of the Bible.

This quick-paced book is divided into the following ten chapters:

1. Stay Calm
2. Stay Compassionate
3. Stay Constructive
4. Stay Challenged
5. Stay Connected
6. Stay Centered
7. Stay Confident
8. Stay Consistent
9. Stay Committed
10. Stay Convinced

If you follow Dr. Jeremiah's other ministries regularly, this book will not add a great deal of new insight. However, it is a concise summary of some of his latest thinking.

Full disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I stumbled onto this book while visiting my local library, just moments after I decided to quit my job due to certain reasons. I read this book in less than 4 days, and really put me at ease. No matter what we are looking at in the world; unemployment, stress, fear in political decisions, Dr. Jeremiah's book focuses on what the Bible states about no stressing out so much that we lose faith that God is in charge and we are to be ready for Jesus's return and everything is in his hands.
This book was an easy read but full of great information. I was glad I went to the section in the library at the time I did and discovered this book.
