This is the first book I've read by Mrs. Layton...and I actually ENJOYED it...the mystery/suspense and DANGER surrounding Nick and Raina throughout DEFINITELY keeps me on the edge of my seat...and oh, YES, Nick is a TOTAL jerk in the beginning...however, he grows on me as the story progresses...and Ms. Raina is UNBELIEVABLY a "jack-of-all-trades"...LOL...she is RIDICULOUSLY good at just about everything she does (yeah, right?!!)...several of the secondary characters get on my LAST NERVE throughout...but the budding relationship between Nick and Raina is TOUCHING once they FINALLY stop fighting their attraction...and I was CAUGHT UP in their HEATED and at times comical verbal sparring...at times I LOL, teared-up, sighed, cheered and even shouted a few yeah right throughout...but overall the suspense keeps me CAPTIVATED 'til the end...I'll be keeping an eye out for more of Mrs. Layton's work.

I give it a 2 1/2. Not bad, but not great.

I have a problem with misunderstandings being allowed to rule a story. But that's just me...some people may not have an issue with it.

The hero tended to be a jerk for a good portion of the story and the chemistry seemed lacking. I found myself skipping ahead throughout the story, although the killer theme was interesting. The romance needed work, but overall the book was an okay read.

This was one of tbe best BWWM romances that I've read in a long time. Full of suspence and intrigue, and a damn good and realistic love story. My only quibble with the plot is that two step brothers would not look alike. Raina would not resemble Max if he were her father's stepbrother. I think the author meant half-brother. I hone in on little details like that when it doesn't make sense. Still, not enough to take away from the overall plot. I'd love to read more interracial romances by this author.

Crossing the line

Syrians Wade was unlucky and unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to witness a massacre. With her life in danger she had to relocate . while on her travel with detective Nick Laprelli she found the love she had been dreaming about. She also figured out the true ID of the killer that turned out to be a respected lawyer who was in constant contact with the cops but TBE could figured out it was him. Good read well written.

Hard way to go

Raina gives Nick a hard way to go with every step they take. It doesn't help that Nick is also putting a foot in his mouth with every step. Its no small wonder that their attraction won put in the end. A killer who becomes obvious only at the end is just the beginning of the excitement that will carry you through their experience od falling in love. This is an important read that will take you on an roller coaster ride of intrigue and steam .

Very Interesting

Loved just about everything about this book. Nick was sexy and an undercover softy. Raina was a strong woman with good common sense and very good survival skills.
Loved the premise of a witness protection basis for this story. The villain was indeed scary, just due to his lack of emotion during and after his kills.

Just Perfect

This story was everything. I am beyond pleased to say it was perfect . It contained the angst, the mystery, the action, the sorrow, love and joy that takes a story from good to great. I want more because Nick and Rains deserve another visit. I have found another writer to love. Bravo!

Great Book

Good love story and mystery. A young woman witnesses a terrible murder and is sent to another state under police protection. She falls in love with her protector. At the end the murderer is discovered and the young woman and her protector have their HEA.

Couldn't get into this book..

This book was boring. The parts I read. Even with the killer on her tail, it wasn't exciting. Raina got on my nerves. Max and her dad did too. I thought this book would never end. A lawyer was the prolific assassin. Scary.

Cute

I thought this book was cute! It was entertaining. There were funny parts in the story which I enjoyed. Nick and Raina were genuine and I love how they chose to love each other in spite of the the opinions of others.

So, this was definately the best book I have read in a long time. Very good romance/crime thriller novel. I would recommend this to anybody who likes either genre. I loved the characters. The love was so pure and beautiful, I didn't want the book to end. Good writing, and very captivating. I read the whole thing in a couple of days.

I thought this book was very well write, despite a few typos. I was wrapped up in the tension between Nick and Raina and my anticipation was building when Raina discovered who Peirce was and when Nick found out the true relationship of Raina and Max. Very good read :-)

It was ok, but neither the plot nor the characters grabbed me. There wasn't much chemistry between the leads and the plot seemed plodding at times
