Caleb Locke lived for one thing — killing zombies. And this man — this legend — was exactly what Samantha Wagner needed. In mist-shrouded alleys, hunted by zombies, haunted by fear, she vowed to find Caleb and convince him to help her. But she hadn't counted on falling in love….
Caleb kept his own secrets — like the one he couldn't hide when the moon was full. But his wolf was drawn to Samantha, recognizing her as his mate. With her in his arms, Caleb reveled in passion… and rued his deception. Would she still love the man who fought by her side if she realized that zombies weren't the only monsters? Samantha would have to make a choice—and she only had till the next full moon.
Lori Devoti grew up in southern Missouri and attended college at the University of Missouri-Columbia where she earned a Bachelor of Journalism. She, however, made it clear to anyone who asked, she was not a writer; she worked for the dark sideadvertising. Now twenty years later, shes proud to declare herself a writer and visit her dark side occasionally by writing dark, sensual paranormal romance, urban fantasy and young adult novels.
Lori lives in Wisconsin with her husband, daughter, son, Siberian husky and shepherd/puggle cross.
A bit gruesome for a romance. Haha. I wished for some blood and guts with my trashy romance. It does not combine quite so well. This book had a decent flow and was free of typos. It was the subject matter that was disgusting. Pick this one up if you want a howling good time with the creepy sound of 'Brains, brains!' carrying on in the background.
Samantha never believed in things that go bump in the night until she receives a video of her BFF, Allison, reacting with fear to someone she calls “the Doctor”. The video convinces Sam that zombies are real, and that she needs the help of Caleb Locke, the most infamous zombie hunter out there, to rescue Allison. What Samantha doesn’t know is that Caleb is a werewolf.
Caleb chose to become a werewolf to better hunt and destroy zombies. His parents were killed by zombies, and he’s made it his mission to eliminate them. If only he could find out where they were coming from. Enter Samantha, who seems to have an inside track via her friend Allison. Caleb doesn’t want to work with Sam, but if she can help him find where the Doctor’s lab is, he will. Unfortunately, his wolf has decided it wants Samantha.
Nothing soft or humorous about this story; it was violent and gritty. It would have made a better urban fantasy than a paranormal romance. I could have done without Caleb and Sam falling in love over the course of about three days. Not everything was resolved by the end, which irked me. The female lead wasn’t sexually assaulted, however, which is refreshing for a Nocturne book.
The story was well-written but not my cup of tea. Average score of three.
I just really don't know how to rate this one. The action sequences were very well-written but the romance was definitely not and the heroine was another one of the TSTL (too stupid to live) variety and oh so annoying. Plus the gruesome brain-eating scenes didn't mesh well with all the love-making ones. It was just a very, very uneven book and that's tragic because it started out so well. All the potential failed to be realized.
I started this excited for the premise -- a werewolf who is also a zombie hunter?? Heck yes.
I immediately was disappointed by a heroine who immediately lost all capability to fend for herself the moment A Man shows up. She goes in a tirade about how cruel it is to eat meat and forces him to throw away his burgers (even though they dont know each other and HE is putting his life on the line to do HER a favour) simply because????????? She can I guess? She needs to be saved at every turn, and remains stupid throughout the entire book. It's the only time she has anything resembling a spine in the entire book and it was also the thing that pissed me off most about her as a character.
There's multiple typos and syntax errors throughout.
The heroine sucks, the hero sucks, everything is a setup to make him look like a big action hero while she whimpers in the background. I was so hopeful that this one was going to be fun but it fell apart immediately.
I have decided to rewrite my review of this book because I felt that my original one was a little harsh. Its not that I feel differently about it but I don't have to be so hard with my description. So here we go. SPOILERS by the way....
I really really didn't like this book. It just was not for me. I found the main character Samantha to be ridiculously naive, wishy washy and it seemed as if she was guaranteed to always make the wrong decisions. She somehow never seemed to learn from any of her mistakes and was determined to ignore any evidence that indicated something she didn't like to the point of almost killing herself on more than one occasion. Honestly I can't figure out why the hero Caleb even stuck with her at all. Caleb was an ok character. Your basic alpha male hero and I liked him well enough but Samantha drove me crazy. The story itself was kind of all over the place with a lot of it seeming to be kind of roughly stuck together. The whole werewolf thing for instance just didn't seem to fit well into the story. I also don't get how zombies have been roaming about for decades but nobody has noticed them. This makes no sense to me at all and seems very improbable. Also the fact that zombies were made in a lab but somehow it became known quickly that were wolves are immune to their bite is confusing to me since no one else in all the human population knows that either one exists. The inconsistency of the history of how any of these things came to be was very hard to ignore and made reading the book difficult. None of it was explained to any satisfaction. All of that being said I will give this book points for being an original take on the zombie genre. Though I didn't like it at all I think if it was rewritten to make more sense then the idea has some potential. Samantha would have to be completely changed though because she is a complete twit and there is no way I can be nice about that. Anyway, Lori Devoti if you read my previous review I'm sorry I was so hard on you. Even if I didn't like your book its still an amazing accomplishment to have written and publish a novel. Zombi Moon was not for me but good luck with all your future books.
This was a refreshing new paranormal story that I really loved. There were so many great things about it. (1) It is an actual paranormal romance--not one of those stories where 2 people are thrown together under extreme circumstances and have sex so many times that the chemicals produce by sex make their bodies thing they are in love. This one was cleverly plotted so that they came in contact and showed how their relationship built and how his otherness was reacted to. (2) It was shown more from the perspective of the main male character and he is definitely the type of rounded character you want to get into the mind of. (3) It was well plotted. The twists and turns kept catching me off guard the entire book. Halfway through I had a moment when I thought I new what was going to play out, but than it twisted again filling me with relief. (4) The 3rd person point of view and the switching back and forth from his to hers perspective was well done and kept the pace moving. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars was because I never really came to 'care' about the heroine. She just didn't hook my interest and I never completely got over her reason for getting in contact. I'd give it 4.25/5.

Zombie Moon was a fun, quick read. Caleb Locke is a known zombie hunter. The blogs all say he's the one to go to for your zombie problems. Samantha Wagner's best friend, Allison, has been kidnapped by zombies and she's looking for Caleb to help her.
In this world that Devoti has created, lycanthropes are immune to the bite of zombies. This makes Caleb, a werewolf, the perfect hunter. He spots Sam battling zombies in an alley and cannot believe she's still alive. She doesn't seem to know what she's doing and he's not about to help her. But, as with all heroes, he can't leave her behind and soon the two of them are working together.
She explains that her best friend has been kidnapped by zombies. Caleb's not sure what to believe b/c he knows that zombies eat people, they don't kidnap them. She has videos to prove that somehow there are some zombies who appear to be controllable.
Both characters are strong and the two together make a good pairing. The story is full of twists that will leave you guessing. I really enjoyed the pairing of zombies and werewolves. I liked Devoti's writing enough to try to find other books of hers to read in the future.
An interesting departure from Devoti's superbly original "unbound" series this has a werewolf zombie hunter fall for the human woman attempting to manipulate him into rescuing her friend, hostage of a mad scientist.
The story is pretty good, it's fast paced, exciting and refreshing to have a paranormal romance with zombie themes. I also thought that it really made sense to have werewolves hunting zombies since their lycanthropy makes them immune to zombie bites.
What I wasn't so keen on were the characters - I just wasn't feeling the emotion. The hero was a little too perfect and I didn't connect with the heroine particularly - I didn't find her that interesting, or original.
I often criticise paranormal romances for skimping on plot in favour of the romance, in this case it's the other way round, definitely more plot based. Still for all that, this is a fun light read with an exciting story and likeable enough characters that don't have really stupid names. Not a patch on her Unbound series, but worth a read.
I don't usually pick up these types of series book, #91. However, I decided to read this one because I'm doing a challenge that needs zombie characters.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't need to read the other 90 books to get the story. It seemed to be a stand alone, so had a beginning and and end.
This was a good story. I enjoyed the intrigue and some of the fight sequences. I likes how the hero and heroine pull things together. I had hoped for a little more on the side story with the were pack, but maybe in another book.
All-in-all, I was glad I choose to read it. Of course, this means I may have to check out the whole series to see what it all about. :-)
I liked the book it was different for sure. Lori Devoti did another excellent job and I really enjoy her Nocturnes.
Zombie Moon is about a zombie hunter, Caleb who is bent on avenging his family's death and even became a werewolf to do it. Werewolves are immune to zombie bites.
The heroine is Samantha her best friend has gone missing and the only way to get her back is to track down Caleb and convince him to help her.
If you don't mind dark reads, then you should definitly check out this book. There's action, conflict and romance not with anything undead so don't worry.
Devoti has a gift for torturing her male characters. And I relish it.
Coming from her Unbound series and being a fan of zombie flicks, I had my doubts on this one. Not everyone can pull off a good zombie story. But the beginning impressed me. With a strong, yet beautifully tortured character such as Caleb, I was drawn right in. My only disappointment would be that I would have liked a bit more detail in the deaths of his family but that's a missing element I can easily overlook.
I picked up this book because I needed a "Z" book and I have enjoyed others by this author, there are worse reasons to pick up a book. This one was ok, nothing spectacular, but still an enjoyable read. One that was chock full of zombies, werewolves, and betrayal around every corner, and of course romance. The main characters were likable and together they were good too. If you are looking to read a zombie book with romance thrown in check this one out.
Caleb is a legend who goes around killing zombies. Samantha needs a zombie hunter to help her rescue one of her friends who is being held hostage. When Caleb meets Samantha, he recognizes her as his mate. But he has told her that he is a shiftshaper who turns to wolf during the full moon.
I can't help myself...I love zombies. I've not read many books with zombies in them, but this one had them everywhere you turned. It was a quick and fun read with a good romance.
3.5 stars. It was good. Surprised me that I like it. Werewolfs and (man-made) Zombies who would have thought it would be entertaining. Quick read to finish my challenges. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
