Hi. I'm Joan Eliabeth Lloyd. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
Pesonal stuff: I was born in 1941 - yes, as of this writing I'm 77. I have a wonderful partner of thirty years named Ed (no, we're not married - for tax reasons) two wonderful daughters, a talented son-in-law and three grandchildren, Sarah and Adam, both out of college and gain-fully employed and Luke, aged 15.
Professional stuff: I wrote my first book, Nice Couples Do, in 1990, because I wanted to share my ideas about sexual communication and sexual freedom. I've written many books (novels and non-fiction) since but stopped writing several years ago.
As you may have gathered, I'm a devoted couch potato. I'm an omnivorous reader, both in my eyes and in my ears.
My present interest is in Battered women. I donate earrings, about 900 pair a month, to shelters all over the country, with the help of attendees at my many workshops. Phew!!!!
I have gone back and forth on whether or not this was a 1 star or 5 star read, but it just hasn't aged well so I'm going with two. There's a ton about it I really enjoyed but a giant emphasis was on her estranged daughter and I just didn't appreciate the repetitive "I think this way because I've been told that and haven't once tried to ask my mom if it's true so I Hate her and she can SUFFER," over and over. Just for them to make up and have the conversation that literally needed to happen 10 years ago wrap up in one page. The premise was great, I deeply want to read some more stuff about this kind of thing, and the sex scenes were awesome. I just can't give any more stars or praise to a book that has not aged well and offended me in quite a few parts.

Not quite sure what it is that I find missing in the books by this author... this one had a bit of a suspenseful story line in that the daughter who refuses to understand her mother almost betrays her (was that a spoiler?).. but she is so hateful it's hard to accept that she's ok at the end. At the same time, it reads pretty well...
This could have SERIOUSLY been better. I'm dissappointed by its over-sentimentality, all but ripping out the excitement of the path the character could have taken. The sex scenes were about a PG-13, barely R rated. It just got all teary eyed over the daughter... got taken in a relatively mainstream route and it could have been SO much better had it been even SLIGHTLY racier.
3 1/2 stars. I really enjoyed it; It focuses on Erika, who runs a call-girl service - but it is so much richer than that. It delves into her personal life, love and struggles. A rich, well-written story,
