Passionate Heat

Rate this book
"As a fan of gorgeous firefighters, I'm thrilled with Rachel Kenley's smokin' hot hero, Miles Anderson. Passionate Heat is a hot and sensual read, well paced and with characters you'll grow to love. I'll be the first in line to buy the next book in this series!" Elle Amery

A troubled past.
When Miles Anderson left Glenway, he never wanted to see the small town again. Labeled a troublemaker and a no-account because of his parents, he was ready to move on with his life. But he didn't think his decision would mean he'd never see Jillian Wagner again either. After Miles was gone, Jillian turned to the wrong people for support and lost her dreams in the process.

An unexpected return
Now an arson and explosion expert, Miles is asked by an old friend and father figure to come home and help put an end to a suspicious string of fires. He agrees, only to discover more than burned out buildings. Jillian is still there, no longer the dancer she once dreamed of becoming, and newly divorced. As buildings in Glenway continue to burn, Miles cannot help but think Jillian is a target.

A fight for the future
Jillian never expected to see Miles again. She had made peace with her past - mistakes and all - and was ready to move on. With his return, however, comes an abundance of old feelings, starting with anger and swiftly moving to desire and love. Miles never thought he could have a home, but with Jillian in his life again, everything is different.

Because nothing burns hotter than a rekindled love.

I wanted to like this one more than I did. It was a very intriguing story that did have me turning the pages at a good clip wanting to know what would happen next. But I had issues with the writing, which was good but in the end needed a good editor.

The dialog was extremely bad. Especially during the sex scenes. There were times that I rolled my eyes so hard that I gave myself headaches. It was fakey and forced and highly laughable. I think that also led to some of my dislike of the characters. Jillian was TSTL. I can't stand it when a woman bases her value and happiness in life on a man. And she admits several times that she isn't a strong woman without a man taking care of her. What?

As for Miles, he's not bad really, just very dull and boring. Easy to forget about him. The pace and plot were great though. I liked the arsonist slant, and even though I figured out who the culprit was early on, I still enjoyed the story. I didn't buy into Jillian and Miles as a couple, they came off as forced and not believable. Also, I just have to say, I'm not liking this new trend where authors aren't describing characters. It's disturbing seeing black shadow figures in my minds-eye instead of fleshed out people. Annoying as hell.

Another problem I had with this book was the first person point of view. It was done when the story went into the arsonists parts. I don't like 1st person so I skipped those parts. Overall, the book was okay. Nothing special. It's definitely not worth more than 99 cents though. I'd recommend it to those who like contemporaries with some light suspense and hot smexy times.

Jillian got stuck in Glenway after a car accident and a mistake of a marriage kept her tied there. She is trying to make the best of it and move on and even start her own business. Miles gets called back to Glenway, his hometown that he escaped a decade ago and hasnt returned to, to help out with an arson investigation (his specialty since the army). Of course he runs into his highschool sweetheart Jillian and they finally communicate about the reasons things got messed up between them and also in her life without him. Someone is starting fires that are obviously directly related to Jillian and her father and her ex husband, but they have yet to determine the motive of this twisted person and be able to stop them. Even knowing Miles is leaving after the perpetrature is caught, Jillian cant help but get involved with Miles and enjoy their continued connection.
I really enjoyed this book. So glad there werent the stupid miscommunications between them that caused some stupid fight (besides the one they had when they were stupid teenagers). Actually wouldnt mind reading a follow up or having this be a bit longer and learning more about their HEA.

This is a freebie I got from www.allromanceebooks.com and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. This is a simple story about childhood friends turned lovers, then grew apart, and reunited. It wasn't as erotic as I expected, and maybe with a lot of other stories I've read, this has by far the least conflict. It had a little mystery to it, but the plot was simple and formulaic. I was hoping for some tension between Miles and Jillian but they just picked up where they left off. The author's point of view about true love is all easy between the two, it's like nothing happened, just one outburst and that's it, no questions, no mind games, just passionate heat. The love scenes were just okay, wasn't that detailed, not the slow lovemaking that engages the senses. The cover was misleading in a sense that there wasn't that many love scenes as one would expect from an erotica.

An erotic love story that embraces the need many people have for "Second Chances." Miles and Jillian were lovers and in love when he left for his military service--her father successfully prevented any correspondence between them, causing her to believe that he had just exited her life completely. Now, 10 years later, he is an arson investigator that has been wooed back to his hometown by his mentor and local fire chief to investigate three suspicious fires. He is also back in "Jillian territory." Their affair re-ignites, but what of the future. A very well-written story that has that suspense edge along with the presence of a resentful ex-husband and a friend who may or may not be truly a friend. I liked this book a lot. It is the first in a series about three brothers.

This story was hard to read because of grammatical errors throughout. A good editor and this tale easily rates 4 stars. Still, Passionate Heat was an okay read about small town high school sweethearts separated by misunderstandings and reunited some years later. Typical plot of bad boy makes good and returning to his hometown to show all the locals that he'd overcome his background beyond their wildest dreams. Ms. Kenley's story is filled with some pretty hot love scenes that might keep erotica readers interested. 2 stars

Wow... this was a great book! I got this for free at allromancebooks.com. I read this in less than 24 hours even though it was NOT a short read... I just could not put it down. I fell in love with both Miles Anderson and Jillian Wagner... It was a sweet story of 2 people that were meant to be together. Based on some of the reviews... I thought this book was going to be a dud, but it really was a nice book to read with lots of sexy scenes. Not to give anything away, but this is a HEA book... these are the only books I like to read!

The spelling errors. The grammar errors.

I dl'd this as a freebie from ARe.

The story was great, it flowed well, the characters were sweet and it was easy to relate to them.

The spelling errors. The grammar errors. These 2 things I took a star for each.

'She took a deep break.' Breath?

I rated this 3 stars the first tie. On re-reading, it moved down to 2.5 stars.

This was a pretty fast read because I skipped the sex scenes. Those scenes didn't contribute to the plot or the developing relationship, since everything that followed the skipped scenes made sense.

The best part of the book were the interior monologues of the arsonist.

This was a sweet tale of old friends clearing the air and becoming good lovers. About a woman finding that she has a backbone. And about how one really could enjoy the life of a small town. Besides the grammatical errors that did throw me for a loop, this book was very good and I enjoyed it.
