Or so the town whispered. Now out on bail, Desi wants nothing morethan to tend to her wolf sanctuary in the Colorado mountains…alone.
Tamati Neville knows Desi is no killer. Yet she somehow remainsa target, in more ways than one. Her strength and earthy beautycaptivate him, so he turns on his New Zealander charm to re-sparkthe life hiding inside her. With some time together, any doubts shehas about him and the town's judgment will evaporate. And it seemsto work—but one question Is Desi ready to believe that she'sworth loving—just as she is?
I read Juliet's Law years ago, but had never continued on through the series. The primary mystery in this trilogy revolves around the murder of Desi's estranged husband. Desi stands accused of the crime. That larger mystery will be solved in book 3, but there is also a more self-contained mystery within this book dealing with Desi's wolf sanctuary. Someone is clearly trying to drive Desi off of her land, and she ends up joining forces with smoke jumper-turned-pub owner Tamati (Tam) Neville to figure out what is going on.
If you like insta-attraction, this book has it in spades. From the moment they meet, Tam is hooked on the local veterinarian and wolf rescuer. The book is set in a small Colorado community, so Tam is very much aware of the stories swirling around Desi. I appreciated that he considered her on her own merits rather than just accepting the gossip. Their relationship moves quickly and with great intensity.
The suspense portion of this book keeps one's attention as it is obvious someone is out to get Desi. The author gradually gives readers a window into why someone might be after her, and it's quite a plot. On the one hand, I basically enjoyed reading this because it's Ruth Wind/Barbara Samuel and the writing is compelling. However, the plotting in this book is just all over the place. I felt like too many threads of plot were being juggled in too small of a space, so it got a bit overwhelming. This one isn't a bad read, but the author does have much better books out there.
