The book Witnesses to Freedom is a book about children that effected Civil Rights. In the book it talks about children who made a change to the unfair behavior of discrimination against people just because they are different. In the book the people's ideas are conveyed through letters or diary entrees. As the book moves forward it shows the progress of the people through order of events. It ends with info about Dr. Martin Luther King's death and his holiday and how he has effected the view points of many children across the world.
Personally I liked this book. I thought that it didn't really seem like a literary non-fiction but it suited the book. In the end more non-fiction like made the book feel like a better fit for me. I personally don't often enjoy non-fiction, it's boring and slow paced, but with this I genuinely never really felt bored. I have heard about these things for as long as I can remember but with this book it took a whole new approach to the topic of civil rights... they used the children's point of view! It felt refreshing when I started reading it and figured out it was from this point of view. In the end if non-fiction is something you think you've heard all about, check it out! I personally liked it!

This book is set on a main topic which is racism, but this book talks about the people that experienced and had to go through the racism time which is back in 1900’s.
Usually each chapter would talk about a specific person or people and what happen to them in their life involving racism. And what they did or would have done to prevent racism from happening or stop the separation from colored people to white people.
About racism in this book is that white and colored people had to be separated in many different or specific places. Like whites had to go to the white school and they would have great conditions for their school and had more opportunities in life and education. For colored people it is the opposite for them, they have bad conditions, they are not treated respectfully or not treated fairly.
This book will be good for a person that likes to read about racism of course, but for a person who wants to know about the past and what or who changed this world into a better place.

I think this book showed me a lot of meaning of what people had to go through back then. These stories that was real showed me how colored people were getting treated really bad back then. The people that are in the book showed why there should be equality.
