“Siegel shows us how to successfully navigate situations that may arise at work, in the home, or in personal relationships. More, he shows how, if the cards are played right, everyone walks away a winner—an empowering feeling if ever there was one.” — Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happyness and Start Where You Are “Winners attract winners and smart leaders attract smart followers…. If you want to grow both personally and professionally, then join the winners and leaders who find wisdom with Max Siegel." — Chuck Wielgus, CEO of USA Swimming From highly innovative and successful business executive Max Siegel comes a straightforward and original self-help book that will give readers the upper hand in almost any kind of negotiation process.
This book was not what I was expecting really. I was hoping for a book that psychologically helped you connect with what people wanted to be able to help aid them in their growth and you and yours this book was more how to figure out those things in a business transaction kind of way but I still found a lot of the information very useful and it was posed in a very positive appreciate everyone mentality and I really appreciate that as well as I find a lot of business ventures are very cutthroat and it's kind of nice to have someone that takes it from the appreciating everyone they come across perspective instead of just the I'm only out for me perspective.
I listened to the audio book and it is outstanding. This is one of the best books I have read or listened to so far this year. The opening is attention grabbing and powerful and I knew I would like the book as I listened to it.
Siegel uses his real world challenges and situations to detail his rules for knowing what makes people tick, visualizing where you want to be (rather than where you are), and appreciate everybody to name a few and all of his examples are great and real which adds value and context.
Max siegel did a great job of making simple suggestions on how he authentically connected with people in a business setting with fairness and integrity.
I was sucked in by the title of this book, sadly. Don't let it fool you. There is nothing "how to" at all in this book. Its mostly a memoir of this guy's life, and I didn't sign up for that.
Max Siegel's book is about getting your personal and professional life in order. His principles that he supplies in this book bring together what a person needs to keep in mind whenever they are trying to assess matters of their own interest but also the interest of others.
Siegel explains that if you want to understand someone you need to see it from their point of view, but not only that, where their point of view is coming from. He really focuses a lot on this point because it is the core of almost every relationship, new or old, personal or professional. He then works on understanding that after you have gotten to know the person and their interests only then can you begin to work on moving to the new level with the person.
The style in which this book was written is very personable. He created everything he wrote in this book and doesn't use any textbook formulas to break down his ideas. They all come from personal experience in his life. There are no research studies or names of researchers from around the world to memorize, it's just him and his words. That being said, there are grammar issues and typos throughout. They are few but easy to catch. I don't take this as something not worth reading because the experience he shares is more than enough to show he knows what he is talking about. He provides plenty of examples for you to follow in many of his principles in case you want to understand how to use each one.
The number of personal examples is what makes this book easy to relate and follow with. He has many principles and concepts to remember. It's hard for anyone to remember them so following them up with interesting stories helps apply the concept. He does that for everything he talks about. I did enjoy reading his book and it gave me a few ideas to try out on my own. The part about getting yourself back on track if you got lost from your purpose is life is a good chapter to read. This is a problem that many people experience. You start off in high school or college knowing exactly what you want to do but then life hits you with all these responsibilities and then you lose track and before you know it, 5 or 10 years have past and you are still waiting for something to happen. That chapter helps get an understanding of what needs to be done to refocus your purpose in life.
Whether you are in high school, college graduate, or mid-level manager, this book applies to everyone at any stage in their life. It's a good reminder that you always need a little fine tuning with your thoughts now and then and this book helps do just that.
Honestly, this was very disappointing. It seemed like a very basic principle. I was not the least bit impressed. It was written for the incredibly simple and was a very dull read. I could have done without reading it and am happy I got it for $4.
