The Rough Guide to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei 5

Rate this book
The Rough Guide to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei is the definitive guide to these three fascinating Southeast Asian countries. There’s detailed coverage of Malaysia’s superb natural attractions, including Taman Negara – the Peninsula’s main national park, with its four gateways – and, in Sabah and Sarawak, Mount Kinabalu and the limestone pinnacles at Mulu. Great beaches and islands also get full attention, including the islands of Langkawi, the Perhentians and the dive mecca of Sipidan. There’s plenty on the indigenous tribes of Borneo too, including how to make upriver trips to traditional longhouses. The book also provides the lowdown on Singapore’s burgeoning entertainment scene – from alternative gigs to cutting-edge theatre – and uncovers the secret charms of secluded Brunei. All the background you need to get the best out of these multicultural nations is here, including a food vocabulary to help you order the best Malay, Chinese and Indian fare, and insights into local etiquette.

I purchased this book for my trip to Southeast Asia (Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and I was impressed by the amount of information that it contained. The detailed information about Kuala Lumpur was very useful. The paperback copy also included a free download of the eBook (ePub) edition of this guide, which is pretty handy for travel, since the print edition is quite large. Overall, this was a very useful guide for my holiday.

I got it as a pressie from my friend in UK before move in to Singapore. I was falling in love instantly. It gave more information about Malaysia and the way we explore those country. I did not go Brunei though (although only need walk across the hill) but it was RG that took me to the deep of Kinabatangan River.

Not as awful as other rough guides...but still not terribly good. And the thing is, it would not even be much to catapult you further up but I just need better maps. It is not enough just to cover major cities....the little spots deserve a little map...if you don't do it as well as the Lonely Planet, you ain't EVER going to overtake them!
