Born in Detroit and raised in Southern California, Diane Stortz has lived in Cincinnati, OH, since graduating from Arizona State University with a BA in journalism. For ten years she led the book group at Standard Publishing as editorial director.
Diane now runs Izzy's Office, where she edits books and writes for children and adults. Her goal: encouraging you to read, learn, love, and live God's Word, the Bible.
Izzy's Office is named for Diane's first house rabbit, Isabella. A petite Dutch rabbit named Pepe ruled the office for six years too. He liked to nudge her feet for attention when she was at her computer and (he thought) ignoring him.
Diane is married and has two married daughters and three grandsons. These days Diane devotes time to baby care rather than bunny care. Two baby boys joined the family this year!
When she's not writing or editing, Diane enjoys walking, gardening, and planning her next trip to visit her grandkids.
Awww. I really enjoy reading this book to my girls. The book is wonderfully illustrated, and as a mom of color, I really like the fact that the children in the illustrations are of different races. We read one story each evening before bed. I explain the verses that the story is taken from (I'm not sure they'll ever remember, but it makes me feel good to associate the story with a specific part of the Bible.) and we review it after we've read it. Both girls have lots of things to say and questions to ask. They enjoy reading God's word.
I gave this to my daughter as a Christmas present right after she turned three, and I read a story from this Bible to her every night before prayers and bed until she was six and she was ready to sit through longer stories and dig further into Biblical truths (we moved on to the Jesus Storybook Bible at that time).
This is a great introduction to daily Bible reading for young, preschool-age girls. As often as possible, the author included stories of the women in the Bible, so girls have an easier time relating to it), and the stories are short enough (a few pages with only a few sentences each--a minute or two to read) to hold a preschooler's attention without over-extending it. At the end of every lesson there is also a featured Bible verse and a "sweet thought" such as "Jesus loves us" or "God helps us."
My daughter was especially drawn in by the pink cover (without any prompting, she suddenly took a fancy to pink and princesses about the age of three!) and the beautiful illustrations. She'd get the book out just to look at the pictures, and she'd "read" it to herself, recounting the stories we'd read together. She had favorites (like Esther and baby Jesus), and although we mostly read through it in order over and over again, she often made requests.
I picked this Bible because I wanted one my daughter would be excited about and want to read, and this definitely met my expectations!
This is beautifully illustrated and easy to read with a focus on girl stories from the bible (but not exclusively- key stories such as Daniel and the Lion's Den and Jesus Alive Again are included). My four year old daughter who often begs for girl bible stories loves this book. The CDs are great too. Each story ends with a sweet thought and sweet words (a scripture). This is a delight to read out loud.
I chose this book for my daughter (who is about to turn 4) because I found it on sale for half off and thought it would be a good addition to our Bible story collection. We have a few other children's story Bibles, all of which are comperable to this one. What I do like about this version is that each story seems to have a bit more detail and to refer a bit more to accurate scripture than the other story Bibles we have. It seems like a really good next step up from the typical toddler story Bible.
This is the cutest storybook Bible for girls that I have seen yet. I do love the God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook, but this one is even more colorful and pretty. Written using scripture from the New International Reader's Version this is very clear and understandable for young ladies to learn just how much God loves them. In addition to the scripture and Biblical stories there are "sweet thoughts" and "sweet words" with each section to make the story more real and applicable. Recommended for ages 4-7 I think this could be read to girls younger, but definitely find this age range appropriate.
The artistry is very colorful and pretty, that's really the best word to describe it. I would definitely be willing to buy this for my nieces and my daughter when she's older.

The difference between the original Sweetest Story Bible and the Deluxe edition is a couple things. The content of the Bible is the same, but the cover is different - showing itself to be a deluxe edition. Then there is the audio. The Deluxe edition has a boxed set sleeve that will hold both the Bible and a cardboard sleeve that holds two CDs. One CD is the New Testament and the second CD is the Old Testament. Each CD is the content of the Sweetest Story Bible read by actress Roma Downey, known from the television show Touched by an Angel. Loving that show from my childhood I enjoy her voice and I think that she is a perfect choice for reading a girls' Bible story book. She reads through the scripture as well as the sweet words and thoughts.
This is a fantastic gift idea!
