Award-winning romance author Deborah Schneider writes Romantic Comedy, Western and Americana romance novels. She lives in the small town that has been the location of the Twin Peaks TV show and movies, near the Cascade Mountains in the Pacific Northwest.
She was employed for over twenty years by one of the busiest library systems in the country in a job that involved arranging author events and family programs. She feels lucky she was paid to be in charge of fun for fifty libraries. She serves on the board of the Pacific Northwest Writer’s Association. Deborah considers one of her greatest achievements was to be called “scary” by R.L. Stine.
As Sibelle Stone, she writes historical romance with paranormal elements, (things like magic, witches, and evil Druids) and steampunk. It’s the same person, with two different sides. Sibelle indulges in her love of steampunk fashion, science fiction, romance novels and hats. She has a lot of amazing hats!
I love stories of the American West. This was a well written, historically accurate story that I wanted to love.
The hero is presented within the first couple pages as a man who pays women for sex, which (to me) sets the bar low for a hero (don't get me started on prostitution in the old west). Then what he agrees to do next... He never really redeems himself to me, but he tries hard.
The heroine bounces from demure to fiesty to sexy to homicidal to sullen. Characters should be multi-layered, but she is all over the place. Sometimes I really liked her, other times - not so much.
Deborah Schneider knows how to make me forget what time I belong to. I felt transported back in time. And she is the queen of slow and sensual. Yikes! I think I burned my fingers holding the book. I found this a mesmerizing tale of two people who need each other so much that they find a way through some fairly strong obstacles.
Thanks for the great read, Ms. Schneider. I look forward to more of your stories.
2.5 stars, but I'll round up since the writing itself was fairly solid.
I actually really enjoyed the first half of this book, but as soon as Amanda hit her temper tantrum in the middle after finding out about some of Sam's lies, I started having problems. From the point they got married, it felt like she underwent a personality transplant, and then the constant back and forth of getting together and then fighting, got old very fast. I ended up more frustrated than anything else.

I really wanted to love this book but the truth is I just got bored with it. Likable characters and a beautiful Montana setting but the story is one that has been told before and told much better.
