Everyone is trying to change the world. Bono, Brad Pitt, Al Gore, Oprah, Bill Gates. Whether it's bringing justice to Darfur, fighting global warming, building schools, or rebuilding cities, people are flocking to causes bigger than themselves like never before. They are dissatisfied with the status quo and are sacrificing their time and money to change it. God's people should be at the forefront of this movement. But we're not. Vince Antonucci challenges believers to take part in changing the world and shows them how to do it, answering the big questions like• how do we live out God's message of faith, hope, and love?• how do we become agents of change in our own communities?• how do we introduce people to the God who can change them?Antonucci says we can do all these things by adopting the strategy Jesus become guerrilla lovers. Just as a small group of people who deliver surprise attacks in close proximity can change the course of a war, they
Vince Antonucci pastors Verve, an innovative church that seeks to reach people who work on and live around the Las Vegas Strip. The upcoming upcoming television series God for the Rest of Us will chronicle Vince's work there. In addition to writing books, Vince leads mission trips around the world, speaks nationwide, performs stand-up comedy in Las Vegas, and most of all, loves spending time with his wife, Jennifer, and their two kids.
This book is not your standard spiritual growth book, and that's not a bad thing at all! But, the writing style certainly was a challenge for me. It doesn't present new ideas really...it just presents the ideas in a way to make you question the seriousness of your faith and the commitment you have to God. But all in a good way. The bottom line premise of the book is - are you here for God, or self? If you're here for God, then you've got to make your life reflect that. A good challenge and message to keep at the forefront of your Christian life.
I had previously read one of Antonucci's other books, I Became a Christian and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt, and I found it witty and enlightening. The only thing different about this book was that it was those things AND convicting...and more if I'm being honest. It was such an easy quick read and propels you to action. I'd like to see everyone read this book (as naive as that is).
good read...followers of Jesus are to counter-culturally love because that's what God does and people are the value...motivation is not "church" growth or being right-just love 'em.
