Ride 'Em #2

Ride 'Em Again Cowboy

Rate this book
A cynical city lawyer finds his ordered life turned around when he meets a handsome cowboy during a weekend getaway on his friend's ranch.

Charles Fletcher is happy to accept an invitation from his best friend, Royce Chandler to his family owned ranch in Northern California, but doesn't expect his life to be turned around by the newly hired assistant foreman, Jed Miller. Although Charles finds Jed attractive, he is uncomfortably aware that the cowboy seems to be carrying what Charles terms – too much baggage. Despite Royce and his lover Parker's attempts to bring the two men together, Charles is wary of Jed's often aloof attitude. It's not until Jed shows up drunk, and Charles is the only one there to help him back on his feet, that the two men connect, both physically and emotionally.

What looks like a promising love affair is thrown a curve when Jed receives a call from his ex lover asking his forgiveness for their break up and to please come home. Charles, determined not to show how much Jed really matters to him, tells Jed, "Hey, it was great fun, but it was just one of those things", and returns to Los Angeles.

Once again, Royce and Parker attempt their cupid act, but will their good intentions bring Charles and Jed together, or have both of them singing 'I'm a Lone Cowhand'?

J.P. Bowie was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. He wrote his first (unpublished) novel – a science fiction tale of brawny men and brawnier women that made him a little suspect in the eyes of his family for a while.

Leaving home at age eighteen for the bright lights of London, he found himself in the midst of a “diverse and creative crowd” that eventually led him to the performing arts. For the next twelve years he sang, danced and acted his way around the theatres of London and the provinces, appearing in shows with many famous British singers, actors and comedians.

After immigrating to the US and living for many years in Las Vegas where he worked for that incomparable duo, Siegfried and Roy, J.P. found himself entranced by the fair city of San Diego where he currently lives with his partner, Phil.

J.P. loves to hear from his readers and can be contacted at jpbowie@cox.net

Ride 'Em Again Cowboy has just as much heart as the first volume in this (so far) trilogy of books. With one of the main characters an extremely morose cowboy who is trying to get over a bad breakup and the other a 'city slicker' (the ranch owner's son's friend who has come for a visit) - get ready for the sparks to fly. I must admit that I was curious to see how different this second book was going to be, just from reading the blurb. It didn't disappoint; including the fact that Royce and Parker from the first book are back and play a fairly significant role.

Jed is running from a bad relationship, or himself, whichever way you want to put it. Not someone who loves easily and very loyal once he falls, he isn’t exactly looking for love when he starts anew on the Double R ranch. Charles, at first glance, seems a little superficial. But it’s very obvious that he is hiding behind a facade, or at least it has become a facade, of not wanting to ‘sample all that is out there’, as he puts it. Their first encounter, with Jed half drunk, didn’t have me very optimistic about their future together. Both clearly have their doubts about themselves, a relationship and a potential shared future. What better way to set up the scene – and let the chips fall where they may.

If you like flawed characters with a past they’d rather forget, a hot, moody cowboy figuring out there’s more to life than his past love and a fun story with lots of misunderstandings and tender moments, you will probably like this book.

Loved this book!!!
It's more interesting, that the first book and I liked to see more of Royce and Parker's established relationship and both Charles and Jed are really nice and likeable :) Glad things worked out for them at the end!

Slow burn country romance

This was a slow burn romance for me. A friends to lovers type of situation where both men are itching for each other, but have so many reasons not to be together until finally they ditch the issues, and come together for a happily ever after.

A Splendid Series of Conveniences

This review covers all four of the books in this series.

In typical J.O. Bowie fashion, each of the two MCs in all these books hit the romance running from virtually the first page even though the circumstances, as well as the virtually opposite personalities, sizes, and backgrounds of each of the four couples are a bit much to imagine as separate tales.

But Bowie's strength is that he creates a community of these guys in the rural area surrounding, and including, Sacramento, so by the time you get to the last book (so far), the whole thing seems totally believable. The sex is terrific, the characters very well drawn, and the plots are all logical, and logically handled. Given the fact that these are basically novellas, that's a tough assignment to carry off, and Bowie achieves it very well.

Liked it a little more than the first, I liked Charles specially, he comes as a more rounded and believable character, I liked Jed at first, but then he just lost his magic, I didn't liked how the ex topic was dismissed, "forget about him" and that's that.

a little short, with 20 pages more i could have been rounded better.

Fun story. I enjoyed reading it. It amazes me how people, not just men, don't listen or pick up clues...

I was looking for a short, quick cowboy fix. This one just didn't deliver, unfortunately. Not enough chemistry or connection between the MCs for my taste. Can't recommend.

While I don't think this book was near as good as book 1, it was good. I liked the characters, but thought they could have had more of a connection between them.
