I actually read this on Mother's Day. It was really more about cultures and their differences and similarities in customs and holidays.

This book explores differences and similarities in cultures, particularly Mexican and American. It's about two kids who decide to mesh their customs together to celebrate Mother's Day.

Thoughts: Ok, I seriously loved this book. It is about neighbors who try to surprise their moms for mother's day and it turns out horribly perfect. It is so nice the way it incorporated two cultures.
Classroom Use: I would read this on mother's day and then have a craft to go along with it. Although the characters presents didn't turn out great, we could learn from that and make something simpler.

Part of the "Social Studies Connect" series this book follows two neighbor kids as they plan a gift for their mothers on Mother's Day. The boy next door, Diego, is Latino and he shares about the Mexican traditions of Mother's Day, including the Morning song. But, when the main character tries to do a Mexican Mother's Day for her mother, there are some misunderstandings.
A cute book for Mother's Day that shows a different cultural perspective.

I would use this book to discuss the similarities and differences in the way Mexican Americans and Americans celebrate mother's day and different holidays. I would also use this book for the students to talk about the things they like to do for their mothers on mother's day.
