Lilian Warren was born in London, England, UK. She worked as secretary, when at 19, her first magazine story was accepted. She married and moved to South Africa, where she continued writing. In the 1950s, she started to write to Rich & Cowan, and later to Mills & Boon, under various pseudonyms Rosalind Brett, Celine Conway, and Kathryn Blair. She passed away on 1961 in South Africa. Some of her books were published posthumuously.
This is a 60's book and it should be viewed within the context of its time. The romance is there, subtle and understated, but the book is focused on a mystery, the heroine's "detective" work and the hero's assistance. I get easily bored with mysteries-romances but somehow this book was the exception and that is why I 've given it 4 stars.
This was my first Kathryn Blair book. Being a huge fan of Sara Seale and Violet Winspear i didn't discover this author till much later....but I'm glad i did. She writes wonderful characters and her plots are well constructed. The H is not a total jerk like Lillian Peak and Robyn Donald hero's, although he's strong, rugged, domineering and doesn't show his feelings toward the h. Love this author!
This is a lovely story about a heroine (21) who returns to Canada where she spent her twelfth year to find out the truth about her sister in law’s death. She’s unofficially engaged in England to a man that has a family who might be upset if it proves that her brother had been involved in the death, so she heads over to ascertain the truth. The hero (33) is a lumberjack who now runs his own mill with a 5 year old son and they live next to where she used to. He decides to help her, although he has no time for women since his short and unpleasant marriage (the wife is dead). It’s beautifully written in an easy, sweet style and it’s apparent after someone makes an attempt on her life (the first one) that he’s smitten and hating the fact she is engaged. The heroine is very keen on the son, and realises towards the end that the hero is the man for her (he really is very manly). 4 1/2 stars
