SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WITH THE COURAGE TO FIGHT ...

Once Catriona Galbraith Macleod had roamed the fragrant moors and green rolling hills of the Isle of Skye. Then love drew her across the ocean to the sunbaked Texas prairie and a home filled with the happiness only a husband and wife can share. But Cat's joy was short-lived --- and in a sudden blaze of bullets she was left with a baby daughter, a debt-ridden ranch, and a fierce yearning to see that Ian's death was not in vain ...

HE WAS A RUGGED YOUNG DOCTOR WITH A LOVE THAT COULD HEAL ...

Since childhood Will Bascom had been Ian's friend, and now as the handsome doctor gazed at Cat he ached for his own loss and hers. But as beautiful, brave Cat took on the challenges of the ranch --- and her late husband's mortal enemies --- he found himself wanting to protect her, needing to hold her, to love her. If only he could persuade Cat not to risk her life for an impossible dream. If only she could make Will understand that even though he possessed her heart, her spirit must be free ...

A very slow-burn romance that spans years which made the story more real and closer to a real life situation. The characters feel real and alive as there are depths and nuances to them. No insta-lust nor alpha jerk / womanising hero tropes. Harrowing yet beautiful tale of Will’s years of unrequited love for Catriona ever since she became Ian’s wife until she got widowed. Just wish the story is more centred on the main couple instead of side stories about secondary couples which I wasn’t so invested in as they didn’t bring much to the story.

Wow this book was powerful, Bartlett knows how to make you smile and make you cry.

Between Ian and Molly's deaths.
The surprise pregnancy of Duncan for Cat.

All of the sicknesses, crop failures, hardships associated with the 1800's.

The pull of being a strong woman alone in the frontier, I adored Cat. Her strength carried this book in so many ways.

Will was a good match once he let go of deciding what Cat needed to do.

Going to have to get more of her books for sure.

I wonder why Stephanie Bartlett doesn't have any books published recently. This was outside of the genre I usually read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
