What starts out as a routine emergency call, lands Gordon Flanders and Dennis in the thick of a madcap drag queen party gone wild. Gordon finds himself in a position to save Ben Ryder, his old lover, from a fiasco that could ruin the movie star's career. Gordon volunteers to hide the movie star from the paparazzi until he can get a flight back to L.A. Thrilled by what he sees as his second chance with the man he never got over, the star struck Gordon plans a romantic dinner for two that he hopes will set the stage for more-much more.
Dennis and Gordon outwardly agree love affairs and work relationships shouldn't mix. Inside Dennis' heart, however, it's a different story. Too shy to press past Gordon's defenses, he settles for being the best friend he can, even when it means helping Gordon plan the seduction of another man.
When events collide to reveal Ben's true colors, Gordon's heart is trampled in the process, and it's left to Dennis to pick up the pieces. Will Dennis finally find the courage to seize his own second chance at love? And with the stardust falling from Gordon's eyes, will he finally see the real star who has been in front of him the entire time?

While story has smutty writing that emphasizes objectification and humiliation with its submission that is clever and deviant, all the characters have had emotional lobotomies. Its hard for me, the reader to be emotionally invested in the characters when they aren't.
I am making another journey to the Pelham Bay society and this time it’s a mix bag for me. STARDUST is another book that the blurb literally sums up a lot of the book.
After a few years of lusting after his co-worker, Gordon Flanders watches in silence as Dennis Wilson lust after his own teenage crush - movies star Ben Ryder himself.
With both men working in the emergency services, as luck would have it they find themselves in a position to help said movie star out of a rather embarrassing situation.
Gordon immediately now sees his chance to make Ben see him as the man he is now, however what he gets is a hero with his feet made of clay, but through it all right alongside him sharing in every emotional upheaval in his best friend and co-worker Dennis.
Dennis has always been there for Gordon and expects nothing in return, but when Gordon’s rose tinted glasses falls from his eyes and he starts looking at Dennis with a glow, Dennis has to make a decision about where to go from here and it might not be what Gordon wants to hear .
STARDUST is a quick read, it was over before before I even got a chance to start even developing an opinion on the main protags. Dennis is a solid guy, more over a patient one. Knowing that he cares for a guy who is secretly lusting after a dream is not the happiest situation to be in but when he gets his chance to have his cake and eat it too, I was quite pleased with how he handled the situation.
Gordon was the mix bag for me – when I met him, I thought he was mad and even after I knew a bit more about him – I still thought he was mad. Waiting your whole life for one person to notice you was a bit much for me to accept and despite the feeling of wanting to be loyal to the one you want – he had too much in front of him to hold on for so long.
The plot itself was familiar – What worked for me with this plot however was that it broke the formulaic mould of the series. In STARDUST, Gordon did get his chance with “the” someone from his past but it was the person in his present that was the one who has been there and is still there for him and the person who he had been overlooking.
I like the dialogue in this book and although some very stereotypical things were brought to the forefront of the plot it played into making the men find each other. While this book was not as strong as the other three in the series – it is a must read if you are following this series.
Now I am all set for my next visit with the remaining members of The Solitary Knights Of Pelham Bay.
Stardust goes a bit against the flow of the previous 3 books since it’s not a story of a first love never forgotten, but it’s more the story of a man that has to realize that a teenager love sometime is not the same when you are an adult.
Gordon is in love with Ben, the first boy he had sex with when they were in high school together; but it’s a feeling that is not mutual, even if Gordon doesn’t realize it: Ben left New York City for Los Angeles to pursue his acting career and he is not a big shot name in the movie industry with a starlet after the other on his arm. He is also an egoist and a selfish bastard, since, even if he is not interested in Gordon, Ben has never told so, feeding Gordon’s crush with nothing more of what an actor would give to a unknown fan.
Dennis is Gordon’s colleague and silent admirer: he is in love qith Gordon, but he has never had the courage to admit it; another thing that stop Dennis, other than Gordon’s obvious infatuation with Ben, is that Gordon professes to not believe in love, he is one of the Solitary Knights of Pelham Bay, a group that claims real love is only a fairy tale. And instead Dennis, even if older than Gordon, at 42 years old has not yet given up to the idea of finding Mr. Right, even if, unfortunately for him, he has the strong feeling that Gordon is his owm Mr. Right.
This is only a short story, but I really liked the easiness and the sweet love story between Dennis and Gordon; maybe it’s not a starry eyed love, maybe Dennis and Gordon are more you average guy than a romance hero, but they are so good together, that I was really cheering for Dennis against Ben: in this case, I was against the idea that your first love is your true love, the initially theory that is at the basis of this series, that to be happy you need to go back to the ONE you first loved, in this case is not true, and Dennis was for sure the right man for Gordon, even if he arrived later in his life.
Intriguing story, but it didn't last as long as I wanted it to

Rating: 6/10
PROS: - Dennis’s devotion to Gordon, his best friend who at times is so selfish I wanted to kick him, is touching. (see cons below also) - I love the idea of a guy realizing that the crush he’s always had isn’t right for him and the unassuming friend by his side IS right for him. (see cons below also)
CONS: - Dennis’s devotion to Gordon is also a little sad. He’s a lovesick puppy if I’ve ever seen one, yet still he helps in Gordon’s pursuit of another man. - Gordon’s realization that Ben is a jerk and Dennis is actually the one he wants happens too quickly for me--within the course of one evening. At one point Gordon is heartbroken because Ben turned out to be a scumbag, and within a few hours, he’s suddenly realized that he wants Dennis…even going so far as to say the L word the next morning.
I really love this series. All of them are short, simple books that pack just enough punch to give you a satisfying story but also not take long to read. I loved Dennis and Gordon (although I did hate Gordon for a really long time because of how completely stupid he was being and how starry-eyed he was. Ugh) He came around, though, and made everything better. I'm curious as to when the next in the Solitary Knights of Pelham Bay series will be released. I definitely recommend them if you are looking for something short to read but also satisfying.
Gordon has been in love with the idea of Ben who is a star and he knew him before but not really the guy of his dreams he doesn't realize that. His friend Dennis has always been there for him. Too blind too see his love for him. Will Gordon open his eyes and see the love right in front of him. Cant wait to read more of this series im sure their is heaps more lonely guys whos hearts have been broken.
3.5 stars It's a sort of cliché formula of not realizing that the one you need is the one you're taking for granted. But sometimes cliché works, right? I really like Dennis's character here. The best friend. The side kick. While Gordon ... ehm, I can't really form judgment over this short story. But I guess since Dennis loves him, he might be worth it :)
These m/m romances are decent reads and remind me quite a bit of a Carol Lynne series. The Solitary Knights of Pelham Bay are a group of extremely cynical guys who'd given up on love and get together to bitch and moan about fools who believe in love. Then the bartender issues them a challenge...
