This is a cute story kids will like. The parents who read it to their little ones might be encouraged in their faith.
This cute rendition of the Christmas story is told from the perspective of a donkey. First the story is seen directly through the donkey's eyes, then like a camera panning out to a larger view, the story broadens, then the reader goes back to seeing from the donkey's perspective. So structurally the story prepares children for books they will read when they are older.
I loved the story being told from the donkeys perspective. It made for a cute retelling. And I liked the Bible verses, added as additional text (not KJV but not far from it). The problem I had with the story was the shepherds. My son was mad that they were the only ones who came to visit. And I didn’t like how goofy they were. Didn’t quite fit. Without that, this would be a much better story.
Genre: Modern Fantasy Grade Level: Primary This book takes a spin on the traditional biblical story and retells it from the donkey's point of view. I think this is a fun way to look at the story. The illustrations are also so engaging and the story line is simple for children to understand. I love this book and would recommend it to anybody.
