I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

I learned a new word. It’s “naco.” I was looking up how to say “tacky” in Spanish. The urban dictionary tells me naco is Mexican slang for a tacky, low class person, no matter how much money they have. I think “naco” is closer to “chav” than what I’m looking for – but in whatever language – this hero is tacky.

H/h meet and make smolder eyes – it’s insta love/lust.
Hero is engaged h’s pregnant cousin.
Once they know the relationship, H/h avoid making smoldering eyes at each other.
Why was H making smolder eyes at *anyone * when he was about to be married?
Fast forward 18 months. Heroine’s cousin died in a late-night car accident.

H/h make smolder eyes before the funeral.

Heroine feels guilty. Hero doesn’t feel guilty because he’s had a mistress, starting at six months into their marriage. But it’s okay. Heroine’s cousin also cheated.

Naco

Hero goes to his mistress the night of his wife’s funeral (!)and tells heroine what her cousin was really like.

Hero takes heroine to a family wedding. They make out, but heroine makes the mistake of asking to take the baby to England to see his great-grandmother.

Hero thinks she’s trying to steal his son and kicks her out the next day.

A month goes by. Hero asks heroine to be his mistress and live-in nanny.

Heroine sells her part of the business and moves to Spain with no expectations.

Hero is unsure of heroine’s feelings so he arranges heroine to be at the same party as his former mistress.

Naco

Hero finally expresses his feelings and asks h to marry him.

Heroine doesn’t say yes until the epilogue.

Squick factor is off the charts:

Hero has sex with cousin, heroine and at least one mistress in a two-year time span.

Hero makes it clear he only ever wanted a mistress and heroine is okay with that.

Cousin’s son calls heroine’s “Mama,” and now she’s wiped from history.

*sigh*

It was a little better than most recent Harlequin novels. Likable leading man. Senseless leading woman, she was so ignorant it irritated me.

Dreadful. Utterly dreadful. The hero is a seriously awful jerk and the heroine a stupid idiot.

There was nothing romantic about this. SK can write great stories so this is a real disappointment.

He's her cousin's widow and this starts out so severely melodramatic that I couldn't get past the first three pages.

Only read this because I got it in a random book box I ordered.
My time was wasted. Morally superior hero, condescending heroine. Typical cliche plot.
Gave it 0.5 stars more only because I managed to finish it.
