In his bedroom, in his front parlor, on the streets and in his dreams, the dead occasionally come calling. Spirits always seem to be around somewhere, and they usually appear when he least expects them. Sometimes they’re only shadows in the corner of a room, or a mist at the top of the stairs. Other times they seem as real as Evan, and if he didn’t know any better, he could mistake them for the living. In fact, he sometimes did.
When the son of an old friend of his grandmother’s goes missing after a night out at a gay club, the woman comes to Evan to beg for his help. He tries giving her a reading, but though he can “see” the young man’s murder, he can’t get a clear image of the killer.
And the bodies are beginning to stack up.
Even worse, all of them look a great deal like Evan.
Add in a handsome, country sheriff, who doesn’t believe in psychics, a local who’s out for Evan’s blood and a serial killer who could very well be someone Evan knows, and you have a recipe for suspense. Can Evan and the sheriff put aside their differences and focus on their undeniable attraction to each other instead of their differences? With the killer closing in, love struggles to take root and the sheriff has to learn to believe in Evan and stand with him against a cruel and evil force trying to tear them apart.
I enjoy stories about spirits. Not sure why. This book had a really good plot and who done it. What was missing for me were the characters. I didn’t care for the sheriff. He was a tool to be honest. The other character was okay but I never attached to him. Still it was an interesting read.
Didn't finish - didn't like the dynamic between the leads.
It started well enough, and I looked forward to enjoying a cozy mystery with a bit of man-on-man spice and some spirits thrown in for a good measure. Nonetheless, the moment Evan and Levi got thrown more together, I quickly lost all fuzzies. Levi's change of conduct towards Evan came horribly abrupt (and more than a bit creepy) and didn't make much sense, and Evan.. he became more and more this little and frightened fan boy who can't believe his luck that the handsome sheriff looked his way. To tell the truth, he'd been showing his belly to him from the beginning, so I should have been better prepared:) I definitely stopped reading during their second love scene, disgusted by Evan's helplessness and Levi's smugness.
It reminds me the of old school romances, where man is strong and arrogant and woman beautiful and adoring and oh so surprised how good sex can be... only in this case both have erections:) Needless to say, not my cup of tea at all.
If you don't mind this, go for it, just be prepared for a mystery being in the backseat a Even's psychical powers inconsistent and not well developped.
4 stars for a mystery 👻 story. Heat rating 🔥🔥 A first read for this author with this book. Evan could see ghosts from a small boy. Now he was a journalist at the towns newspaper after working his way up, and paying off a college debt. Unfortunately the towns sheriff wasn't a fan of his. Levi 30 years was sheriff and ex-army and came across as disliking Evan, but yeah you need read this to find out his thoughts on Evan. Evan 23 yrs had an elder friend who had a missing son, Dylan who'd asked for help with a dream. The book had a good start but it had a lot of unnecessary information told that took me away from the characters. Trigger warning of gruesome scenes described, dangers for Evan with a mad man, This book had me fooled as to who the murders identity was suspecting the wrong fellow. An HEA ending to the book with dual povs written in first person. #4stars #mystery #bisexualMC #triggers #dangers
Evan is a reporter in a small Southern town. He has always known he can see spirits. People in his town know his grandmother could and he can. Levi is the town sheriff. He and Evan get off on the wrong foot at the scene of a fatal accident. When Evan tells Levi the dead woman told him the people in the other vehicle had switched places, Levi didn't believe him. As they get to know each other, they realize they are attracted to each other. To add to this, there is a serial killer killing young gay men in the area. He sets his sights on Evan. Enjoyed this book, great storyline and main characters, angst, suspense, humor, steamy sex and a HEA.
I’m docking a full star off due to the excruciating editing. There are missing words and punctuation, repeated phrases and inconsistent details. The characterisation between the first half and the second is totally different, to the point that the sheriff is essentially a different character. It’s a shame because the mystery is entertaining even if underdeveloped. To me this read like an intermediate draft that still needed some work, which, again, is a shame because it has some good stuff in here.
I think this is a well written story and I really liked the sheriff for 2/3 of it. Levi-- other mc--I wanted to slap into next week for being a whiney scared little man from page 10. He'd seen ghosts all his 23 years. He was raised by his grandmother who saw ghosts and did readings for friends. Levi knew nothing and had no desire too which makes him boring and tiresome. I will try more Shannon West books, very good writer.
Boy, I just finished this book and I would love so much to know that there's book 2, but of course there's not, loved this story it had it all, mystery, love, who done it and all. This is the first book of hers that I've read, and guess I'll go and check out some of her other ones
I managed to read 9 chapters that s all. I can t do more than that. I m a fan of this author, I don t understand what this is. The story the writing everything is boring, basic, I can t express how uninteresting I found this to be. There is no dialog just constant narration. NO, just no to this one
I enjoyed reading this book. It had the romance, paranormal, and a mystery, all in one book. I have usually enjoyed Ms. West books and I am glad that I read this. I think it will be a reread for me. Recommend reading.
I wanted to give this 4 stars, but it’s absolutely riddled in spelling and continuity errors. Realistically, it’s a 2 star read, but I bumped it up to 3 stars for a nice concept that kept me engaged and reading, despite the numerous proofing errors.
I absolutely loved this book!! I was hooked from the very first page! It kept me on the edge from start to the very last page, I really really hope to see another book with Even and Levi! Now im off to read another of this authors books! Read it youll love it!!
I definitely read a better book I. This genre. The criminal case was undeveloped and bland. I can't even write we had a romance here, because really what a bland story.
