A compilation of essays on Gibson's film, this book helpfully stresses that the film is less about the historical (?) Jesus or the Biblical portraits of him in the Gospel narratives, but rather Gibson's creative work which is heavily influenced by Anne Catherine Emmerich's Dolorous Passion. Some of the contributors "like" the film, others do not (Anti-Semitism and violence are two of the biggest complaints), but all agree that the film falls short of "history" or a blow by blow harmony of the Gospel tradition. This will be helpful for pastors and Christian educators, as many people view this film and other "Christian" movies as Biblically and/or historically accurate.
