Exploring Limits

Rate this book
Jonathan Braedon's successful acting career and consideration for his young son have always kept him from acting on his attraction to men. Newly cast as King Arthur in a BBC miniseries, he manages to conceal his interest in co-stars Devon Aldridge and Kit Webster-but Kit and Devon are just as interested in him. Rather than fighting over Jonathan, the two decide to seduce him together. Jonathan might have been able to hide his attraction to Devon and Kit individually... but together, they're too much to resist.

The three find themselves deciding what they want out of their lovemaking and their relationship, exploring options they'd never before considered or thought they'd left behind. Add a touch of kink to the mix, and Jonathan, Devon, and Kit discover that the perceived limits of the past are really just the beginning.

2.5 I would have liked it more, but some of the tropes were hard to handle. No pun intended.

First off: unless one has an extraordinarily long tongue, the prostate cannot be licked.

After reading that a character licked another's prostate, my BS meter was off-the-charts chiming & I had a hard time enjoying the rest of the sexfest. I realize the authors are female, but there's this thing called research.

I can't believe I am going to say that I almost didn't finish this one. I generally like Nicki Bennett and Ariel Tachna enough that they are pretty much an auto-buy but this book just didn't do it for me.

For me, the chemistry between the men never gelled. I didn't feel any real connection between all three characters. I sometimes felt it between Devon and Jon when they were getting a little rough. I felt it between Jon and Kit when they were playing Knight and King but I never felt it between Devon and Kit nor did I buy it between Jon, Devon and Kit when the three of them tried to play together.

Additionally, there was a rimming scene with tongues and prostates that seemed so unlikely that it made me laugh, which was probably unintentional.

The blurb talks about Jon's son as the reason he hasn't indulged in his homosexual desires. It also talks about all three of them deciding what they want out of the relationship and exploring options. But we never really hear anything about his son or anything else related to a real relationship. I admit, by the end of the book I was skimming more than I was reading since it was all sex all the time and, like I said, I didn't really feel like these guys had the best chemistry. So maybe there was more mention but I guess I expected more soul searching about the future of the relationship, coming out, meeting families, etc.

It just wasn't what I'm used to by these authors or what I expected based on the blurb.

Note: My Review is for an Arc of the new/updated edition coming out March, 19

I feel like this book had a ton of potential that just wasn’t reached. It was good up until about 30-35% in and then I completely lost all interest in every aspect. The storyline just had no real plot or sustenance to it and dragged on and with no end in sight. After the 35%, I did scroll through the book stopping in random places to see if there was more to the story but it was all just much of the same. Lots of the same repetitive sex between the three men, and not much more.

But who knows... Maybe it’s one of those, “it’s me and not the book situations”. I honestly haven’t checked other rating/reviews so I don’t know what others have said or felt about this one.

Kit and Devon both want Jonathan and set out to make the “straight guy” theirs. And Jonathan basically falls into bed with the two of them from the first night. Which is okay, but the threesome just always felt a bit off to me; it didn’t really seem like an equal threesome.

They had little to no conversation about what they all wanted and were looking for, which led to Kit being a bit unhappy at times. Jonathan kept thinking about his son?? But there was nothing else really brought up about that fact and no drama around him having a kid, so I’m not sure why that was even in the storyline, even as an afterthought.

I appreciated that they did a bunch of role play during their times together that focused around their acting roles and that was interesting to read, but after the first time around it was just repetitive and a bit boring. And, the heat-and-steam factor just wasn’t there for me.

I really did want to like this book. I was intrigued by the blurb, which is what made me pick it up to begin with. And I think if it was like 50% shorter it would have been fine and I would have pushed through to the end. But really just fell flat of what I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed.

Où est l'histoire ? A part une succession de scènes de sexe à trois, il ne se passe rien. J'ai tenu jusqu'au chapitre 10 en espérant que ça change, mais non.

I think Jenre's review is pretty accurate and explains a majority of how I'm feeling about this book.

I thought this story had a lot of potential. I mean, I thought the premise was rather interesting even with my dislike for menages. I liked the characters and their humor. I found it funny how Kit and Devon were willing to 'share' Jonathan even though he's straight (supposedly). Kit was my favorite character because he was just so adorable. The youngest out of the three of them, he was all bouncy, excited energy and even when he pouted it was cute. I couldn't really connect with Jonathan or Devon because there wasn't that much information given on them, or was there any on Kit for that matter.

While I did like the characters and the general idea for the plot, there was just too much sex. While the sex was kind of interesting, it got boring just reading that and I started just skipping pages. It's like one big sex scene cut into four parts. Which I thought was a waste. I like my books to have more plot than sex and unfortunately, this book has way more sex than plot. I prefer sex in books to further the book somehow but a majority of it didn't.

Overall, I think the only people that will like this book are ones that prefer lots of smexing. As it is, I'm not sure I'll proceed with the series. Maybe if I ever get the urge to just read porn I'll continue with it or if I learn there's more substance to the other books then I'll read them. :-/

Another reader called this book disappointing and I agree. It's not that there was anything "wrong" with it so much as I thought there was a lot "missing".

There was no plot other than the three men getting together. There was no tension, nor any reason for the emotions developing in the way they did. The BDSM/limit discussion that took place at he beginning and had some potential to set this book apart from others (I thought) petered out and was totally absent by the end. The ending itself was unexpected and abrupt, almost as if there was another part to the book that had been chopped off, or maybe there are plans for a sequel?

There was a deepening emotional relationship (except it wasn't clear why) between the characters and lots and lots of three-way sex. The writing was good and there was quite a bit of humor, which I really liked.

Exploring Limits is a sexy ménages romp between three very different men who find in each other the perfect chemistry. For once it’s prim and proper England who debauches friendly America.

Jonathan is the new American actor who will play the role of King Arthur in a tv fiction about Camelot; Jonathan is a mid thirty good fellow, friendly and nice. From the first day he tightened a friendship with Devon, the same age English actor who is playing Lancelot. Their friendship is the classical beer and chat bond, both men with the same experience and attitude in life. Or almost. Since in one thing Devon is different from Jonathan, he likes men and he has never had a problem to indulge in his desire; on the contrary Jonathan has never had the courage to follow his desires, first probably for his young age and later since he said to himself that he would have not been a good example for his son. But now Jonathan is far from home and in a set where almost all the actors are handsome men, and looking but not touching is a torture.

Without a third party, probably Devon and Jonathan’s relationship would have been only friendship, but young Kit, who plays the role of chaste Percival (and he is chaste only on stage) has other idea. He wants Jonathan, but he understands that Devon is a formidable opponent, and instead of challenge him for Jonathan, he decides to draw a pact of alliance: both of them to the conquest of their king.

Probably, in this case, a ménages is the only solution: Kit and Devon alone without Jonathan are not a likely couple, Kit is too vanilla for Devon, and probably Devon can be interested in Kit for a funny temporary romp, but he is too young for Devon. Devon needs someone more similar too him for a steady relationship, someone like Jonathan. At the same time Kit and Jonathan alone without Devon are too “young”, Kit for age, Jonathan for experience, to last; they need the experience of Devon to lead them from one night stand to relationship. Maybe Jonathan and Devon alone have some more change, but in the end, probably they would be bored, Kit gives them that spicy more to last.

After the initial seduction of Jonathan, the story more or less is a continuous learning session on the joy of sex, and so, reader, sit comfortably, and enjoy the ride; there will be no angst, only light and funny entertainment. The only bump the realization that, even if more experience than Jonathan in Manlove, Kit, after all, is really the youngster to be cherished and cuddled, more than roughhoused.

This book has lots of potential, but it really didn't come together for me. Three really hot men having hot sex: what's not to like? Somehow, though, the threesome never quite clicked for me. Devon, Jonathan and Kit are in a BBC production of King Arthur. Jonathan is playing the part of Arthur. Devon and Kit both want a piece of Jonathan, so rather than going after him one at a time, they decide on a mutual seduction. Jonathan has a son and hasn't been able to act on his interest in men in the past, but Devon and Kit are too much to resist.

The mutual attraction between the three men works but somehow the staging of the sex scenes was just awkward. Devon and Jonathan like really rough play and somehow Kit doesn't, but they don't know that, which creates a problem. There is also a rimming scene with tongue touching prostate that is so unlikely that it made me laugh, which was probably unintentional.

The three men really never try to work out a relationship, nor is the future discussed. It's really just all sex, all the time, except secret because they are on set, except then maybe they want to play on the set as well.

I really like these authors, and they write really well -- but this story just didn't fly for me. Fortunately, it appears to be the first in a series, and I'm hoping that Bennett and Tachna will pull some of the loose ends together in part 2. I'd advise waiting to read it till you have all the parts.

Exploring Limits is what is known as Plot What Plot in the slash fiction world. And you know what, sometimes that's perfectly fine. I am one of those M/M romance readers who just doesn't need all the unnecessary angst in order to enjoy the story. Sometimes I just want wall-to-wall bangin' sex, and I got that from writers Ariel Tachna and Nicki Bennett. Of course, Exploring Limits happily pushes all of my slashy buttons with not two, but THREE hot men turning themselves into human pretzels. Devon, Jonathan and Kit are hot, sexy, virile and very much into each other. They're castmates on a British television series--Camelot--and within less than ten pages, are into each other's trousers.

Of course, there are a few face-palm moments, like the use of hair gel as lubricant (most styling gels contain alcohol, which would NOT feel very nice on anyone's private parts), and a few couplings that are close to physically impossible--but these things didn't detract in a big way, which speaks volumes about the authors and how well they pulled me into the story. Even though it's 90% sex, there was still an emotional attachment to all three men, especially Devon and Jonathan, who are the older men in contrast to the younger Kit.

It's a six-part series and I just started Stretching Limits, with our three lovers spending a lust-filled weekend on the coast of France...ooh la la!

Imagine a book where the character is called Jonathan ... John aka Jonathan is an American actor who is playing the role of King Arthur in an English movie production ... Then there's Kit who is playing the role of Percival ... Toss in Devon & you have a spicy ménage à trois ... Now add in American English & English English (head starting to spin) ... finally, imagine a ménage sex scene where the author uses every fucking name permutation to describe the characters "the American" ... "Jonathan" ... "John" ... "Kit" ... "The older man" ... "The younger man" ... "Percival" ... I spent my time saying "whoseywhatsit fucking? Gah" ... but I kept on trying to read this nightmare of a book despite my incredulity (Johnathan was straight until 2 pages into the book & then happily converted to the 'dark' side with nary a qualm) until Devon managed to lick Jonathan/The American/John/Arthur/The King's prostate ... at that point I despaired & admitted defeat ... unless Devon was later revealed to be an alien with a foot-long tongue, the only way he could physically lick someones prostate is if he had his head firmly lodged up Jonathan/The American/John/Arthur/The King's arse ... which is just an icky visual & too kinky for me! Do your research people!

PWP (plot? what plot?). nice 3-some wank material if you're not too particular about realism (hair gel is not lube, human tongues do not generally reach the prostate, and some of those positions -- HOW?)

do not read this for story. there is a little, but it's perfunctory, and there's minimal character development -- why exactly these guys are into each other beyond the sex isn't at all clear. but they have more sex than pretty much anyone else in m/m-land. yowza.

usually i rather like these authors, but this was weird. the entire book was approximately four sex scenes that were each about 40 pages long. seriously. the other 10 pages of the book were devoted to
conversation. and setting the sex scenes. those sex scenes were decently written, but frankly the book was devestatingly boring after it became obvious that's all there is to it.

This was disappointing. Lots and lots of smut, not much plot. If there was any, it was talk about limits.
Also the ménage did not really work for me, 2 older men and one 15 years younger. I can see the appeal for the older ones but the young one? Also they did not like the same things smut wise.

I enjoyed this one but actually got a little bored. The sex was hot and the guys were hot but it was one long sex scene which normally i for me, more sex the better, but there was no conflict or anything else to make it more interesting. I'll still read the next one though.

I will give this book 2.5 stars. I love M/M/M menage novels with a lot of sexy scenes but I was distracted reading this book and that isn't me. An 8 chapter books is nothing to me but I had to force myself to finish and that doesn't sit right with me.

This was a good first book in this series. This is a m/m/m ménage with mild BDSM read. What starts out as three mural actors on a set turns into so much more. This is the first book in the series but that does not mean that it is even less of a steamy read. There is definitely some very hot scenes with erotic play to it. Nicki Bennett did a good job on this book and making me want to read the next book in the series to see where things between these three men will go.

This book starts out with Devon and Kit both having the hots for another actor on the set. Both men make it known to the other that they are interested in getting to know Jonathan better but neither man wants to have to compete with the other for his attention. So they instead come up with the idea of the three of them together. This idea is well and good but they have to figure out if Jonathan would even be interested in this considering they do not even know if he swings that way.

When Devon and Kit invite Jonathan to join them at the pub for drinks he is definitely interested. After all the innuendos between the two and how close they are both acting towards him, his interests sky rocket. Never in a million years did he expect to finally fulfill his fantasies of being with a guy but now to have it expand to the two guys that seem to want more from him as well.

These three men realize just how good things are between the three of them and decide they want more then just the one night together. Though none of them know the other very well, they all want to change that. There are definitely missteps in their relationship with each other and things that they need to learn about each other as well but if they all learn to talk about what they need and expect from each other.... they may just find something in the three of them they did not expect to find.

This is just the first book in this series. It is the learning your limits and get to know you book. It is really a great read and I look forward to reading the next book in this series to see where things Ar going to go between the three men. Can’t wait!!!

It should have hit all my buttons. I love thruple romances.

I just never got into the story. The way the three guys got together felt forced. I didn't feel any chemistry between them. There was lots of sex but I did not feel their connection.

Such a disappointing read.

Darum geht's:

Meine Meinung dazu gibt’s hier

I've read books by these authors individually and together and enjoyed them. This time? Not so much. Jonathan is an American actor (30's) working in Britain on a King Arthur TV series. Kit, a young actor, and Devon and older actor (mid-late 30's) decide they both want Jonathan so set out to seduce him together although they did not have a relationship before this momentous decision. Doesn't take much work as Jonathan has always been attracted to men but never acted on it because of his young son (who is never mentioned again). They then proceed to have a menage relationship screwing at ever opportunity. This is from the Sean Micheal school of writing. The first 7 pages were Kit and Devon deciding to seduce him. Then the entire rest of the book is one sex scene after another. The scenes where they aren't having sex or about to have sex or just finished having sex, they are at a sex shop, talking about getting their test results so they can bareback, flirting on the set or ... oh wait, that's it. There was very uncomfortable scene for me as Devon and Jonathan are really into rough sex, lots of biting and bruising and Kit is uncomfortable with this but tries to go with the flow. The other two are so focused on what they consider pleasurable that they are clueless to Kit's distress as they basically attack him, holding him down and kissing so hard he can't even tell them to stop until things get carried away. I will say my strong emotional response to this scene is a testament to the authors' skill, but it didn't endear me to the characters even though they apologised, yada yada. So that turned me off and then to be honest I skimmed the last 30 pages because it was just more sex. I never felt Kit was really part of them and he was the only one I got a slight glimpses of what he was about beyond being perpetually horny. Although he was that. Jonathan never mentioned his son or what this would mean eventually though that was the whole reason he never had a relationship with a man before and it just ended with them planning a long weekend vacation. So I'm not sure if there will be a sequel or what.

I also found lots of references to them all in their character names "their king took off his boxers" "Lancelot raised his arms" or Jonathan was referred to as "the American". I know it's hard with three guys to keep them all straight because he/he/he but I'd rather have their names than referring to them in character or by descriptors. I'd hate to be referred to as "the Canadian" all the time, well, especially in bed. Like what? I come behind the German and the Italian and you can't keep our names straight? LOL So this did not work for me on many levels. It never got further than sex, there was no discussion of any kind of relationship issues beyond apologising to Kit and coming up with safe words (which since they wouldn't allow him to speak and say stop the safe word was useless). For those looking for steamy menage read it will be ideal especially if you like it a bit rough (they toned it down at the end) or some role playing as there is a huge scene of Kit and Jonathan in character. Interesting but by then I'd lost interest. I'm desperate for some plot beyond matching cock rings. So not horrid, but just not for me.

This book is about the very beginning of a new relationship that you get to be in on from the ground floor. It's something new for all three men and you get to see how they will all cope. You have Jonathan who has never before acted on his feelings for men but has always had them, Devon the charmer, the mastermind, and Kit who is adorable and wants to please. You have to love all three of them and as their feelings grow, as the trust grows, everything gets hotter and hotter. It moves fast, as it's like that first rush of a euphoria with a new relationship, but you just know from the ending that there will be more from these chaaracters which there will be. This is just the first book in a series so as the series continues, everything, the connection, the love, will deepen.

I had to put this book down and I haven't had to do that with a book in quite some time. Too much fantasy not enough meat-and-potatoes. The storyline wasn't believable and to give the author and the book credit, I read more than half of the book before I finally put it down and said, "no mas!" If I have to push myself to care about your characters or even remember the storyline, the book's not going to retain me as a reader. It's sad too, because I think the story holds much promise... just didn't like the execution of it.

Not horrible as porn, but as you might be able to guess from the plot summary, this is something of a porn-plot. Two professional actors have the hots for the star of a TV series and seduce him and have hot, kinky sex. And there's some conflict over how kinky the sex should be. But otherwise, not much plot. It's something that I would expect in a porn movie, but not a book. The kink was mild, there were mistakes and bad writing, and I don't think anybody should pay for this.

I would agree with those reviewers who noted the lack of a plot in Exploring Limits. A plot is the one element you really should not leave out in a story of this length. It is a disappointment unless all you are after is a series of minimally linked sex scenes - this information would probably qualify as a spoiler for this book, as it is all you get.
