Quin Quintaro opinion of her wasn't flattering! He'd made that quite clear at their first meeting.
"It might be a good idea if you restrained your impulse to insnare everyman you meet while you're in Peru," he said.
Not that Bliss' cared what he thought about her, of course. They were hardly likely to see each other again. But that was before she realized that Quin was the friend her brother-in-law had appointed to look after her during her South American stay. Well, she'd be polite to him, however infuriating he might be - but she didn't intend to fall in love with him.
Jessica Steele was born on May 9, 1933 in the elegant Warwickshire town of Royal Leamington Spa. She has two super brothers, Colin and George, and a lovely sister, Elizabeth. She was a delicate child and missed a lot of school. In fact, she left school at aged 14, when she was diagnosed as having tuberculosis. At 16, she started work as a junior clerk. In 1967, Jessica married with her husband, Peter and within a very short space of time they had moved from her hometown to the lovely area where they now live. Their house is built into the side of a hill, and has beautiful views over more hills and valleys. Her brothers and her sister are very close and she has plenty of nephews and nieces to make up for the fact that she and her husband have no children of their own. Both she and her husband are more than a little dog-oriented, and their current dog is a Staffordshire bull terrier named Florence. Florence is gorgeous. She loves everybody but, since she is 40 pounds of dynamite and would hurl her boisterous self at everyone she meets - given half a chance - she has to be restrained (as much as possible). She is fun.
Her husband spurred Jessica on to her writing career, giving her every support while she did what she considers her five-year apprenticeship (the rejection years) while learning how to write. She published her first books in 1979. Jessica has tried using a typewriter, but it just doesn't work for her. She is much happier writing in longhand, and in actual fact has a dozen or so fountain pens filled and ready to go at the start of any one session. A friend has a secretarial agency and, after deciphering Jessica's writing, returns an immaculately typed manuscript. To gain authentic background for her books, she has travelled and researched in Greece, Russia, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Hong Kong, China and Japan.
"Flight of Discovery" is the story of Bliss and Quinn.
In a sequel to "Without Knowing Why", the heroine's sister decides to visit Peru for her own adventure. Recently recovering from a nasty bout of pneumonia, she is still insistent on enjoying her vacation, until she realizes her brother in law has appointed his friend as her "babysitter". They get off on the wrong note, argue incessantly, banter back and forth, fall in love, truths are uncovered and the book ends in a HEA with a long drawn confession.
Ive realized JS uses the same formula for most of her old school romances with the oblivious heroine/ smitten hero/ foreign travel/ lie trope- and I love it as these can easily become my comfort reads- as I know what to expect from them!
Yummy! Loved it!! I rarely read Harlequin, but Jessica Steele is amazing. She can create tension, conflict, and amazing chemistry. Also, her characters make me chuckle sometimes. I love her books, even the ones I only rate three stars are good. Her British heroes remind me of Cary Grant. They are alpha yet sophisticated and debonaire. Always shrewd, fairly cynical, protective, and passionate. But first, they put the gal through the wringer, because they suspect them of some misdeed. When they realize how wrong they were, it's no holds barred to get the girl, often by sweating it out and groveling. Even better, they fall in love even thinking the worst about her.
This book is one of my favorites. Dreamy. Steamy, too. It goes with the book Without Knowing Why. Sequels.
4 1/2 Stars! ~ This is the very first book I've read written by Ms. Steele, and it will most definitely not be my last! What a wonderful lovestory! Bliss is a young woman determined to show her family that she's fully recovered from a very serious bout of pneumonia, and she's pooled all her resources to go on a trip of her dreams to Peru. When her Peruvian brother-in-law asks his friend to check up on her, her holiday suddenly becomes much more than she ever dreamed. I love how Ms. Steele gives us a hero that we can easily see is quite smitten with Bliss, but (pun intended) Bliss is blissfully unaware! I'm so looking forward to reading more from Ms. Steele.
This is right down the middle Steele. It's not a clanger. It's not fully a wrong-ideas-about-the-heroine stew for the hero. It's got a lighter touch & tone for JS.
After some initial dislike, the leads fall into a nice rapport and then fall in love while sightseeing in Peru. There's a lot of sightseeing but I don't mind the details (next trip I go on, I'm setting a book around it, talk about a great tax write off). I really like how the heroine is smart about & enchanted by the history and landscape and that the hero is enchanted by her smarts & enchantment.
Since I read so much JS I knew from the jump France was a lie, lol, but that didn't alter my enjoyment or undermine the whole.
The final chapter grovel is a bit uneven, because of their already established nice rapport that'd been interrupted with her discovering the lie. So it's more wary-but-willing than turning things around from a clanger.
They're definitely besotted and will have a good HEA, especially with his good friend and her dear sister none too far away to raise their kids and whatever all with.
Bliss visits Peru in secret from her newly-wed sister because she doesn’t want to spoil her sister's honeymoon. She meets a disapproving Peruvian who happens to be her brother-in-law's friend who accompanies her.
I was 15 when I first read this and it was a big favourite - it made me desperately want to visit Peru :-) The heroine (22) is likeable, interesting and absorbed in her hobby - and even oblivious to the hot Peruvian hero for a good while. The hero (36) is soon under her unwitting spell and lying to keep her close - just like the hero friend from Without Knowing Why. It’s not so angst filled at the HEA, but they’ll make a lovely couple. 4 stars from me.
This is book # 2 of the Carter sisters and features Bliss the younger Titian haired sister of Erith from Without Knowing Why. Erith found her true love Dom in Peru and this is where she now makes her home. She and Dom have been married a little over 2 months and they send an open air fare ticket to her sister Bliss as a present. Bliss is a librarian with a keen interest in archeology. Peru is a great place for an archaeology enthusiast as one finds out when they read this romance/travelogue. I thought the first book was interesting but this book made the beautiful historic sights come alive. I was extremely busy looking up places on the internet.
Heroine: Bliss, 22, virgin, tall, beautiful and strong After almost dying from pneumonia, she goes to Peru for a vacation and hopefully a little respite. But this girl doesn’t stop. She is bound determine to fit in every destination she can and has a full itinerary. She is reluctant to see her sister and brother in law as they are only recently wed. She decides she will see them right before she returns home. However, the sister finds out she is in Peru, and is worried that she may overdue it with her weakened health. Dom not wanting to see his wife stressed over the welfare of her sister, asks a friend he knows is in Lima to watch out for her. The friend is our hero
Hero: Quin is 36 and is a tall, dark handsome Peruvian who lives by the sea
He is staying in the same hotel as the h. He forms an immediate dislike to the h as she seems like a tourist who is looking to score a sugar daddy. The h picks up on this stranger’s hostility and doesn't like him a bit. After getting a phone call from his friend Dom, he goes to seek out the friendly sister in law of his friend, only to find that she is the red headed tart who has been all over the hotel. He takes her to dinner, and things do not go well. The h hopes that is the end of Quin Quintero!
However, when she books a flight to Cuzco, he happens to be on the same flight(business for him). They have a good conversation on the plane and the h finds out that her BIL told the H all about her archaeology interests and bout with pneumonia. She hates being treated like an invalid and gets angry with H’s high handedness in getting her a hotel room where he plans to stay. He threatens to call the BIL and she really doesn’t want them disturbed as they have ONLY been honeymooning 2 1/2 months🙄 So she succumbs to the Hero’s involvement.
Basically the rest of the story is the H taking her to all of these great places. Having him as company becomes a pleasure for the h. We can also see how taken the H is with Bliss because everything excites her.
Her glee becomes his glee. It enjoys seeing Peru through her fresh eyes. Yet, when she is unwilling to slow down, the H has to threaten to contact her sister and bil. However, she says fine she will just go visit them. Then he tells her they are not home, but flew to France. But he will call them in France if need be, and that will stress her sister out more. She doesn’t want to stress her sister out so she agrees to go with the H to his home with the promise that he can show her the Nazca lines from a plane which gives the best vantage point. This excites the h and she goes with him.
She stays at the H’s house for most of her vacation, but everyday when she gets up she starts to tell him she is going to be on her way, and he tells her things like, BTW today we are going to see…..the archaeologist in her can’t resist, so that is why she ends up being there day after day. They end up sharing an intense moment on the beach, and it comes out that the h is still a virgin. So our H backs off a bit until….Then later he goes to her room with a book of hers, but she thinks he wants her to leave…things end up really heating up on the bed and then the H pushes her away and leaves(our h believes he is pining away for his true love that dumped him) The next morning the h is ready to leave but the H takes her another museum…unfortunately the trip doesnt go well because of the night before. When they get back to the house, he has to leave for the factory. She meanders around and definitely decides she has to leave the next day. She calls her sister’s house and is surprised to find her sister is back from France. During the conversation some things slip out about the H that makes our heroine’s anger match her hair. Once she is off the phone she starts packing, but her trusty maid called the H to let him know that the h was in distress. He comes tearing into her room. She doesn’t hit him but I’m pretty sure if she did she would have knocked him off his feet. However, there is still 30 pages to go. This is one of JS’s devices since she doesn’t show the H’s POV through the story, he now has several pages to explain his actions(which always shows how besotted he is with heroine) The heroine also gets a word in here and there to tell him how she has been feeling. In the end they come to a HEA with a wedding planned soon, so they can go the whole way the next time they are in bed.
3 ⭐️ for the story, and 1 ⭐️ for the awesome depiction of Peru. Plus, it introduced me to a new drink called the Pisco Sour. I will be seeking out some pisco at our local liquor store soon so I can make this. The pisco can join my liquor shelf with ouzo bought after reading all the Greek stories and my brandy from all the french stories.

Tiresome. Same shit, different day. Heroine stayed in a hotel and breakfast a lot. She also travels and repeat. Moving to another hotel she still dine all the time, eventually ending up at the hero’s home just to eat and sightsee, I’m sure. Dnf.
Good read. I really liked how he was in love with her and she was unaware of it (generally a jessica steele plot). I also liked how H kept of finding excuses to extend her stay:). Overall a sweet romance.
okay .. it's somehow boring but i loved the way that he was Quin it is not romantic at all it is like newspaper's events :\ it is hopeless i was loved jessica's novels :(
