An Old Affair – Alexandra Scott.
He could easily give the 30 thousands pounds or loan to the heroine, instead of demanding marriage. These kind of Hs always spent hundreds of thousands or millioms in these days in jewelry with their OWs and almost nothing with the hs. It’s difficult to believe that he still loved the h. He never looked for her in all these years after he became rich, if they didn’t met by chance this time, he certainly would have married Klara. The way he was comforting the OW in his room within minutes of his marriage is tasteless. He didn’t treat and speak to the OW like a friend but like a lover and the endearments that he used for the OW are the same for the h. Please! Am I supposed to believethat nothing happened with them in the past or will in the future? He didn’t want the OM at the wedding but he had no problems bringing the OW. And another think the physical description of the character of the heroine in the book that he wrote fit the OW not the heroine that was brunette. There are flaws in his explanation about the OW that the heroine is blind.

Where is the passion? Boring.
Arabella is an impoverished model and Rudi is a famous German writer.
6 years ago they met in Berlin when she was an heiress and he was a penniless student. They fell in love but it didn't work out. Now her father desparately needs the money and Rudi demands marriage.
Don't forget the Cold War.

The way this book was written, you would have sworn that it took place in the 1960s rather than the mid 80s.

This was not a book that I could really get into. It seemed more like a Presents rather than a regular Harlequin Romance. The hero had that overly arrogant manner and the heroine was more than a little bit wussy.

In a story where two former "lovers" reunite, there are so many things that could happen that could bring about a happy ending, but that's not the case here. Arabella finds it hard to tell the truth because she believes Rudi left her after a bitter fight 5 years before. She's cold, catty and quite often unlikable. I found myself wanting to smack or shake her several times in the story.

She told lies and created innuendo that were meant to keep Rudi away. It would have been better if she screamed and shouted at him. It might have saved the author a few dozen pages.

The only thing about her that I did like was her loyalty to her father, who has run about on hard times. I shook my head at how she was a struggling model, yet she was working for a top designer. Even in the 80s if that were the case, she could have helped get her father out of his financial difficulties. Its not as if she was a catalog model.

Rudi was a bit more likable, but again, the two characters just had way too many secrets and very little trust in one another. It almost made the happy ending a bit unbelievable. Neither one of them wanted to come out and confess their true feelings. The whole book felt like a power struggle and that didn't make for good reading. In a line where most stories are lighthearted this one was a bit to dramatic.

I liked this story....Arabella and Rudi had been a 'couple item' several years ago when they were quite young....but they broke up and hadn't seen one another for 6 years. Now they meet again at a gala, recognize one another but Arabella doesn't want anything to do with him.

Her father was a poor businessman and needed big money to get out of a jam he is in or go to jail for fraud so Rudi will give him the money if Arabella marries him.

Arabella waffles back and forth about loving him but all ends well....as expected.
