I appreciate the detailed process swatches to understand hook placement as it relates to the final swatch. It’s very helpful to see these process photos in the same color as the final swatch. This helps me to understand how the process relates to the final product. The book does a good job of building on techniques and then introducing patterns. I found myself flipping back and forth to the technique section after seeing it in the patterns, and it’s nice to have this all contained in a single resource. I appreciate that the patterns have differing degrees of difficulty. I understand how the techniques are used in different patterns. This book is a comprehensive resource for someone wanting to learn the basics and advanced skills of Tunisian crochet. Well done, Lori: this book is a wonderful compilation of resources and design!
**I was provided a copy for review courtesy of Stackpole Books, but all opinions here are my own**
An excellent resource for anyone who wants to grow their Tunisian crochet skills! There really aren't a lot of books about this craft, and this one really fills a gap, especially for people wanting to take the next steps beyond the basics.
A must have for people who want to learn tunsian crochet and go beyond beginner level. Lori breaks the projects down to 4 levels so you can create items in your comfort zone and grow your Tunisian skills. The book has great photography and understandable instructions. Lori even gives some direction to left handed crocheters. As soon as this book arrived, I opened it and marked 4-5 projects I want to make.
I am a regular Tunisian crocheter and designer, and I highly recommend this book. Many books on the market - while useful - just rarely have patterns that I am interested in. Lori Harrison's Exploring Tunisian Crochet, however, is full of engrossing patterns using different weights of yarn, different textures, different shapes, colorwork, etc. Furthermore, patterns are written with clarity, and there is a lot of useful content to give a beginner confidence.
If you are interested in Tunisian crochet and want to explore the full depth and breadth of the art, this is the book you want. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned hand, you will find multiple patterns that you will want to make. Given the standard cost of a pattern, the fact that this book contains 20 is a HUGE deal. Highly recommend.
Wonderful patterns, already working on Water's Edge and have plans to make Trekking, Wild Berries and Wanderlust. The instructions are perfectly clear even for someone like me who is new to crochet. I'm not a lefty but love the inclusion of the "for left-handed makers" sidebars
A “must have” book for beginner to advanced level crocheters!
Full disclosure: I teach crochet, and I test crochet patterns for Lori. I have tested several of the wonderful patterns in her new book (Wanderlust Scarf, Wandering Path Scarf, Trailblazer Shawl, Treeline Hat, and Intrepid Capelet), and I promise they are original, well written, easy to understand, and jam-packed with learning. A lovely variety of project types that will inspire!
“Exploring TC” is aimed at intermediate and advanced level crocheters, but includes all the basics to get a crocheter new to Tunisian Crochet started, including several Beginner and Easy patterns to launch your TC adventure. A full third of the book is dedicated to techniques and tutorials, with detailed explanations and wonderfully clear photos to help you master all the skills you’ll need for these patterns and more. Tutorials are written from a right-handed perspective, but include pertinent tips and photos for lefties. Techniques covered include colorwork, joining and seaming, increase and decrease methods, conquering the curl, modifying basic stitches, creating cables, working in the round, and lots of other tips for excellence in your project. This book is the “full package”, as they say.
This book is a great addition to any crocheter's library. Whether you're a new to tunisian crochet or advanced, Lori's book walks you through techniques and skills that will help you master the craft. I consider myself to be on the more advanced side and I was surprised at the number of skills and stitches from the book that I was able to learn and practice.
I specifically loved the following highlights of the book: - images and instructions for left handed crafters - a photo index of projects - 20 unique patterns moving from easier to harder as you work through the books - any patterns requiring sizing are size inclusive
I've already made three of these patterns and I cannot wait to start more!
Instructions were understandable and made sense to me. I already knew how to do most of these stitches, but the illustrations and steps were accurate to me; for the stitches I had not yet tried, I believe I could follow the instructions.
The patterns are lovely, although none struck me as something I absolutely needed to make for myself at this time. I'm keeping this in my back pocket, though, if I opt to enter something for the county fair this summer!
Recommended for public libraries where fiber arts materials are popular.
An excellent book for beginner or experienced tunisian crocheters. Lori breaks down the stitches used from basic to more challenging. There are explanations & photos to show how the fabric works up. I tested 2 patterns from this book prior to its publication. Lori writes patterns streamlined & easy to follow. There are video tutorials of stitches on her website as well. I highly recommend!!
